Annaliese's Successful VBAC Birth story! (Bluejeanbaby1217)

So Annaliese is 11 days old and I am just now getting around to writing her birth story! Goodness time flies when you have a toddler and constantly nursing an infant!

Background: March 2012 I went into labor on my own at 38.2 weeks with my son but he was transverse. I had two attempted versions but baby boy wasn't budging. I ended up with a section and also a uterine infections (horrible experience)

Short story: Annaliese Jane was born via successful VBAC at 5pm on June 29th after 12 hours of labor and 45 minutes of pushing. She weighed 7lbs 4oz 20 inches long with a head FULL of dark hair! 38.4 weeks.

Long version: June 28th at 7pm I started having slightly more BH then I have had in the past, I started timing them but they were pretty inconsistant and didnt hurt at all. DH was at a soccer game with friends so I texted him that I was having contractions about 20 minutes apart but didnt think he needed to come home or anything just yet. He got home around 10:30 and I was still having contractions but again they weren't too strong and I wasn't really timing them. We stayed up talking until 1:00am and I was then timing the contractions about 7-10 minutes apart but not strong. At 3:30am I woke up and could tell that there was a difference in the strength of the contractions and decided to walk around the living room for about 30 minutes before I decided to wake DH up. I told him I was going to call up to the hospital and see if they thought I should come in (I'm an RN on the post partum floor at my hospital). My friends Elizabeth told me that since I;m trying for a VBAC that I should go ahead and come in so they could make sure baby was handling everything ok. We called our friends to come watch our 2 year old and they showed up at 5am and we headed to the hospital.

Once I filled out the paper work and got changed the nurse checked me and I was only at 1cm (the same that I had been a week before at the drs office) they said they'd hook me up to the monitors and watch me for an hour. 1 hours later I was a 1.5 so they said they would give me another hour before deciding to send me home.....well the next hour things started to HURT, we walked for about 30 minutes until I couldn't stand it anymore and headed back to my bed. I started moaning threw contractions and my DH was getting sick to his stomach hearing me in pain (he was sure something was seriously wrong since I never had painful contractions with our son and managed to dialate to a 7)....nurse came to check me and I was a 1.5 STILL but I told her I was not comfortable going home. She talked to my doctor and he said to give me some Stadol to see if that would relax me enough and let my body start doing something. The Stadol sucked and I was only able to sleep for 3 minutes at a time until I had another contraction in which I was screaming and clinging to the edge of the bed while my husband looked on terrified lol. Finally at 11am I called the nurse in and told her she had to give me something else for pain, she checked me and I was 5 cm and my water was about to break! They called my doctor and got me to a real room ASAP and called for an epidural. They checked me again once I was in the room and I had gone from a 5 to a 7 in 15 minutes. Finally I got the blessed epidural and a bolus and got relief! Dr came in and checked me right after the epidural (about 12:30pm) and I was an 8! DH and I watched TV and I napped on and off for the next 2 hours when the dr came in around 3pm to break my water. He checked me and I was a 10 and as he checked me my water broke on its own. Baby girl was still a little high and they didn't want me to push for too long because of my c-section history so they let me labor down until 4:30 when I started pushing. When I first started pushing I couldn't believe that it was actually happening. I had cried so many times during this pregnancy thinking that a VBAC was just not in the cards, but I did it and at 5:00pm Annaliese Jane was out and daddy got to cut the cord and everything! Breastfeeding is going great and she is a perfect little angel! Big Brother Locke isn't sure what to think of her yet but seems to be adjusting well. It was also an awesome experience to get to have all of my friends that I work with get to take care of me and Miss Anna, they were almost as excited as we were. lol

Good luck to all the mamas trying for a VBAC! I understand the emotional rollercoaster that this decision can cause and I wish you all the best!
