Baby sleeping through the night in your room?

Hello! Looong time lurker here. Thanks for all the insight over the past 6ish months ladies!

This question is for moms who's babies are sleeping through the night. Are they sleeping in your room? My mom thinks babies will sleep better in their own room and I'm looking to test her theory.

Re: Baby sleeping through the night in your room?

  • I hate to jinx myself but she has been sleeping through the night last few nights...... in her crib. She grunts a lot though in her sleep and probably 2 weeks ago we tried having her sleep in crib vs rock n play and it helped everyone. :)

  • I think it depends on how quiet your baby is or how easily they are roused by your noises.

We moved DS into his room, but last night I put him back in ours because he got his needed and I wanted to keep an eye on him - but I slept horribly! I woke to every noise and grunt. I'm le tired.
  • Baby has slept for some 6-7 hour stretches (still not consistent at 7 weeks). He sleeps in an armreach cosleeper in our room.
  • Just want to say I'm jealous, my DD is 7 weeks and still wakes up every 3 hours to eat. If you don't mind me asking what are your feeding amounts and schedules? Maybe I can change something up.

  • We kept DS in a PNP in our room for 6 months and he STTN almost from the very beginning. He also combined his first morning nap in with his nighttime sleep (he went right back to bed after his morning bottle), so he often spent up to 15 hours in bed and therefore so could I if I wanted to. It was heaven.

He didn't sleep nearly so much after we moved to another house and put him in the crib in his own room.

[We've always used a white noise machine and blackout curtains. I'm sure that's a factor.]

  • DD is 9 wks and has been STTN since we moved her into her own room at 8wks. Prior to moving her to her own room she was giving us good stretches, about 7 to 8 hours and then we decided just to try her out in her own room and it worked great! She now sleeps straight through 9 to 10 hours. As some pp have said, it's almost a factor of her keeping me awake with grunting and squirming, which then leads me to be making more noise, which would probably wake her up. So as soon as she was in a separate room we all slept better. I wish I had done it a week or so earlier.
  • Ds2 has sttn a couple of times (10-7) and when he doesn't, he sleeps to about 4-5. I think sometimes I wake him up when I get up to pump. He sleeps in a rnp right off our room.

  • Dd has slept in her room since we got home. 10 weeks old. Sleeps 9ish to 6ish without waking.
  • Mine sleeps in my room. I was told to keep her in there for 6 months by her doctor, mainly for SIDS reasons. She also has reflux to I get paranoid about choking on spit up so I like her close.
  • My lo sleeps 7-10 hours straight a night and sleeps in her pack n play in our room :)
  • My LO sleeps in the newborn napper on our PnP in our room. He will give a good 7-8 hour stretch in the night but was giving us 5-6 hours by three weeks. He is 7w 3d now.
  • DS2 sleeps in the closet and sttn. But I doubt having his own room is what does it. I think for this guy, it is the cluster feeding that takes place 2 hours before bed

  • DD has been STTN since she was 2 weeks old, except for growth spurts. She was in our room until about 5 weeks and then moved into her own room (still in the RNP). Her sleep pattern hasn't changed based on what room she is in. I do expect a set-back when we transition to the crib, but that would happen regardless of whether it's in our room or hers.

  • No. He is in his own crib in his own room. He sleeps from about 10pm to 8 am with one feed between 3-4 am.

I was picking him up when he wasn't really awake and crying when in our room because I thought he needed something.... Turns out it was mostly a poop or gas lol

  • Our DD is STTN in the crib in her room. I was also getting her up when she would fuss in MOTN and realized she was just fussing to get herself back to sleep. So it actually took her longer to get back to sleep when I did that. Putting her in her own room was one of the best things we've done so far!
  • For those whose babes are STTN, do you use a monitor if they are in their own room?
  • DS just started sleeping 8 hour stretches and he is 11 weeks. He sleeps in his crib in his room. We moved him to his room when he was 3 weeks old because I couldn't get any sleep with his grunting.

This was me too. Happened last night because I brought him back to keep an eye on him because he got his 2 month needles. Kept me and dh up to every noise. And I kept trying to feed him thinking he was hungry!

I use an angel care monitor and plan to get a video one as well. He's like 10 feet away so I can hear him before the sound comes through on the monitor.

It's true. You sleep better. I worry of course but I did with him beside me. We never catch a break.
  • He was sleeping 8-10 hour stretches in the RNP in our room until a couple of days ago, when I tried the crib in the nursery again. It worked!!!! Now he's sleeping in his room.

Given how horrible it was to transition my first baby to his crib, I can't believe it. I keep pinching myself.

We did not use a monitor with our first baby but I did get a video monitor this time. We are in a different house and MH and I hang out at night in the den, which is on the opposite side of the house from the nursery. I am loving being able to see him!

  • No monitor though I've been thinking of getting one. With ds1, we could hear him from the office/living room but with DS2 in the master closet, we can't hear him as easily.

  • After 5 weeks of a noisey sleeping baby my DH finally got me to put her in the nursery and I don't know if it's coincidence but she started sleeping through the night! 9:45-6:45 last night. God, please don't let this be a phase. It's great on the whole family!
  • DS is 9 wks and doesn't sleep through the night. If I get longer than 3 hrs I'm giddy. Right now we don't have space to put him in his own room but are looking to move. Right now he sleeps in a bassinet but we'll probably get a crib for him once we have the space.
  • DD is almost 12 weeks old and STTN in our bedroom. I plan to keep her in our room until she is about 6 months old.

  • She's been sleeping 9-10 hours a night since just before 6w. For now she's still in our room in her bassinet. Maybe it's time to switch her over.

Our DD is sleeping between 5 and 7 hours in our room in a rnp. I think she really likes how it cradles her. I hope she keeps it up!
