3rd Trimester

Are you going to BF?

Have you made a concrete decision on this? If so, what were your main reasons for whatever your decision was? I'm one of those undecided ones, and it seems I change my mind from one day to the next..so I'm trying to form a firm decision.

*Forgive me if this has been discussed 6,451 times...but I'm new to 3rd Tri...so I'm going to use one of my three "I'm new here" cards for repeat questions.

Re: Are you going to BF?

  • Not going to BF. ?I have to go back to work in 6-8 weeks and although my work says they are "lactating mothers friendly" it's not a comfy place for me to pump, etc... and it's just a personal decision. ?If I were staying home, it's something I would try.?

  • I'm going to. I don't see why I shouldn't. 1. it's very good for the baby and 2. it's free.
  • Yes, I am going to "try" bf'ing.  Try being the key word because I'm not totally comfortable with the idea but the benefits for the baby seem more important then my comfort level.  Plus it'll save some money...
  • I hope to be EBF, but we will see!  I was able to for awhile with DD, and despite being rough in the beginning, it was positive overall.  With this baby, I will BF as long as possible, and since I'm a SAHM, it shouldn't be too difficult to work out, unless baby wants to eat when we're needing to do things like pick older siblings up from school.

  • I'm going to breastfeed, but I'm going to be at home in order to do it. I may become a pumper for awhile after that. It's a pain in the ass, I'm sure. So it's not for everyone. Don't let guilt sway your decision, because both methods are perfectly fine.
  • I have made the decision to bf - hopefully it works out that I will actually be able to do so (you never know until you get there)

My decision is based on a couple of reasons: BM has so many good antibodies/vitamins/etc in it, it's free, I am looking forward to the "bonding" experience I hear so much about.

Good luck with whatever way you choose to go. Remember, it's your choice and whatever you decide for your child is up to you!

  • I am going to give it my best try and I hope that I can BF. If he will not latch or something else then I will pump my milk and give it to him in a bottle. If all else fails and he just does not take my milk for what ever reason then I will FF.?

  • 100% going to BF. I have no idea what to expect but I definitely think it's important to try at least for the first 3 months.
  • I'm going to at least try to while I'm out for 3 months from work. Not sure about when I go back to work because my work isn't really BF friendly (I don't even get a break during the day). My reasoning to do it at least for a bit is it's supposed to help the baby's immunity, it's good bonding, it helps you lose the baby weight quicker, and it's cheaper than formula feeding. Also is supposed to help prevent certain cancers but not sure if you have to do it for a certain amount of time for that to be true. GL with your choice. I was debating a bit as well.

Ditto.  I did it with DS.

  • Yup, I plan to BF.  There are many health benefits for baby and me AND it's FREE!!!
  • I'm definitely planning on it ... we'll see how successful I am at pumping when I go back to work -- I'm hoping I'll be able to keep up a good milk supply.

    1) It's good for baby

    2) It's affordable!! :)

    3) My mom breastfed me & my sisters  -- so I guess I've just always assumed I would

    4) I'm actually really looking forward to the experience

  • I did not enjoy it with DD and stopped after 2 weeks.  This time around I am going to BF for 3 days for the colostrum and then FF.  I understand the benefits of BFing, but I also know that FF will fit into my lifestyle a LOT better.
  • Yes, I am hoping to breastfeed for the first year. I was able to for 13 months with dd so don't anticipate any huge obstacles this time around. Pumping at work is a pain in the butt - especially since I have a job that requires a good amount of field work - but I'm committed to doing it again.

I live in an area with a VERY high rate of breastfeeding, plus my mom and my sister both breastfed. So that coupled with the health benefits to both the baby and me made it a natural choice for me.

  • I certainly hope so!  It's better for the baby, it's free and I trust my own breastmilk a heck of a lot more than I trust the companies that make formula.

I've already spent quite a bit on a good pump for when I return to work, so I sure hope it works out.  If it doesn't work out, I'm not going to beat myself up about it though.

  • I am going to I did with dd and it was great for us. I want to for at least 6 months. Hopefully I won't have a problem pumping, the place to pump at work is private so that was a big factor, I didn't want to do it in the bathroom like I had to with dd. I loved bfing but it isn't for everyone.
  • Yes I am!

    1. I did it with DD and it worked great

    2. It is better for baby and me healthwise

    3. It is free

    4. I have never had any trouble pumping at work

  • I'm going to give it my best shot! I had a breast reduction when I was younger and my docs said that there was a pretty good chance that I won't be able to breast feed. I started leaking a few weeks ago though so I am staying optimistic! I will give it my all, if it works it works, if it doesn't then life goes on. I think its worth a shot.
  • Yep - I did with DD and it was just wonderful. No regrets! I hope to BF this one for about 18 months.

  • I absolutely am 100% (God willing) and I really plan on doing everything in my power to make sure I can for at least a year. I too am going back to work ASAP (like 6 weeks) and will just pump. I understand that certainly bf'ing is a choice but seriously it's why we have breasts... There are so many benefits even for doing it 2 weeks, I don't really understand why someone wouldn't even try.?

    ?

  • Im going to try and if it works Ill pump at work. ?If I cant and FF I wont feel guilty about it.?
  • I will be BF. Just because I can do it, and because it's great for the baby and less expensive than formula.
  • Yes, I plan on BFing.
  • I'm going back to work at 6 weeks, my work (a huge public high school) is not particularly pump-friendly, but I am going to BF- it's that important to me.
  • Yes, I will EBF. Reasons: health/nutritional benefits for baby, free, bonding, quicker weight loss for me, etc., etc., etc. I EBF my son for 6 months. I'm hoping to go the full year with this one.
  • Yes, I plan to bf with this baby. I was able to bf dd for 10 mos. until she weened herself. My main reason is that it is very beneficial for the baby and it promotes and strengthens the bonding between mommy and baby. I feel very strongly that as parents we sometimes need to make sacrifices for the good of our babies, and though it is sometimes not the most convenient thing in the world to bf, I want to make sure I am doing the best thing for my child.
