Trying to Get Pregnant

Horseback Riding and TTGP

Hello fellow bumpies!

I'm looking for opinions/advice from fellow horseback riders.
A little of my background: My DH and I have been TTC for a little less than a year now, and I'm a fairly regular rider, not terribly often, unfortunately, since I have an exhausting job with long hours, but up to twice a week. I grew up on/around horses, my mother ran a stables during my childhood and rode all through both her pregnancies with no problems, but she's also starting to look like a pregnancy pro, since she got KU immediately both times she tried. I always assumed I'd take after her in fertility and now that we've been trying for a while with no success I'm wondering if riding could have any affect on it? The research I have is split, books say avoid riding while pregnant, or other "high risk" sports, while historically women rode for centuries while pregnant and popped out babies just fine. I haven't found any info on riding while TTC, though, and that's where I'm at. :-/
Basically, I'm curious if anyone has spoken to their doctors about the affects of riding while TTGP or once they're pregnant? Any advice on this topic from fellow riders would be very much appreciated!

Thanks lovely ladies!

What are you afraid of exactly?
Son: Jackson, 11/02/06, stillborn due to PPROM and IUGR. Over the next ten years we had 9 miscarriages from 8-14 weeks. On May 18, 2016 my daughter, Ridley, was born. We're OADNBC.

Lol, wow, uh, I don't know... I guess knocking a fertilized egg loose or making it more difficult for the sperm? It sounds so silly, I'm just worried and curious and paranoid. :-)

@DawnLilly‌ No, my husband doesn't ride.
  • No, for you I don't think riding has an effect on your ability to conceive.

    As long as you're aware...

@EllyD14‌ Lol I'm fully aware of my paranoia and the level of my crazy. I'm mostly worried about riding during the 2WW.

    Thank you, @DawnLilly‌.
  • I don't think that riding is any reason why you haven't conceived yet. It can take a year and that is considered normal. Also, as much as I wish it was true (my mother conceived easily also) your mom's fertility really doesn't have anything to do with your and your partner's. Once I was pregnant I would ask my dr about riding but I don't think I'd worry about it until then.

FWIW, I have ridden all my life, and rode the weekend before I got my BFP.  And I'd probably still ride now, given the chance, although I'd stick to a trusted horse and riding on the flat.
