Re: Help I have a twin with colic!!

  • Switch medications for the reflux, there is another kind called ranitadine. With the right medication and dose it should make a world of difference. I had to keep at my pedi until she agreed to increase dose and finally switch medications. Be thankful it's only 1 all three of mine had reflux - imagine doing what you are doing, and going through what you're going through with 3. It was a nightmare but once we figured out the medication and dosage it was night and day. GL sending you TandP

  • I was at the pedi with my boys a couple of days ago because one was already backed up.  The pedi was telling me that there was a lot of new research out that is suggesting that having a baby on probiotics can help prevent colic.  I haven't dealt with colic, but it might be worth a try or at least talking to your pedi about.  You can get them OTC.

My pedi said the same thing about the probiotics - we were willing to try anything, it didn't make a difference for us but that doesn't mean it doesn't work, there are just some many other variables at play.
  • My baby B cried for the first 3 months of his life. If he wasn't sleeping or eating, he was crying.

He was dx w reflux at about 2.5mo and it made a world of difference to get him on meds. He was on Zantac (generic is ranitidine) for about 3mo. It does take a few days to a week to work. Check out refluxrebels.com for info and as a resource.

Also look at purplecrying.info for colic related info.

I'm so sorry.  My twins didn't have colic but my older son did and it was awful.  My best advice is to feed them on a regular schedule ( don't let them go hungry obviously but snacking all the time is not good), try sleeping in a rock and play - the incline helps, gripe water and mylicon can't hurt.  Also sometimes colic is worse with overstimulation so if he is dry and fed, swaddle him up tightly and put him in rock and play and see if he just needs a few minutes alone.

  • My son has reflux, the medication made a world of difference as did a swing. Keeping him at a good angle all the time. I also highly recommend the book "Happiest Baby on the Block". It's written for colicky babies in the first 3 months of their life. After the first chapter I was able to actually soothe my son!
