2nd Trimester

Quad screen pros and cons

I'm undecided about getting the quad screen I had it done with my first child but I know it can be inaccurate but if there were to be something wrong it would be nice to know before delivery just to try to be more mentally prepared. Just curious of some of you ladies opinions and/or experiences.

Re: Quad screen pros and cons

  • Just had mine done yesterday.  With our first child I initially didn't want to do any of the testing but my midwife made the very good point that if we knew we could prepare ourselves to care for a special needs child.  So we through with the ultrasounds and blood work.  With this pregnancy it wasn't even a consideration, we just did it.

  • I live in a state where it's mandatory that it be offered. Turns out I did have some abnormal results. It was a little worrisome until I had a level 2 ultrasound. But everything looks great right now.

Because my results were unusually high I will receive extra screening in the 3rd tri so it's nice to know that I need the extra attention. Without the screening I wouldn't know.
