Cloth Diapering

Foods that just don't mix with CDing

We went blueberry picking this week and ended up picking 15 pounds of blueberries! Haha oops. So needless to say we are eating tons of blueberries right now! Good thing I have my son in disposable pull ups because the blueberry poops are RIDICULOUS! It gets everywhere when I change him, staining my clothes and it even stains his skin! So this got me to thinking, are there any other foods that don't work well with cloth diapering that you've experienced? I CD my daughter so I'm just wondering if there are highly staining foods I need to be warned about for when she starts solids.

That's good to know @theultimatesak We eat a fair bit of quinoa in our house, and DD is quite a while away from eating that sort of thing, but it is nice to have that heads up!

  • It doesn't stain, but everytime we have quinoa I cringe knowing the nasty diaper ahead. It always clears my kids' systems.

LOL. For my son, it's oatmeal. I DREAD the oatmeal poos!

Omg! Once we fed E sesame chicken. When I changed her diaper, I had forgotten about the sesame seeds, and thought there were (HOLY CRINGE WARNING) maggots in her diaper. Didn't again though. Blackberries also stain like blueberries.

This has happened to me before with undigested white rice!

Poppy seed muffins. They are the devil. No matter how many times you wipe, there will be poppy seeds in every. little. crevice.

    Ewwww!

  • I haven't had a ton of problems with anything staining, but I will say that I hate it when I accidentally let DS eat too many tomatoes. Shewwwwww!

  • I don't find blueberry stains to be all that bad, and they usually fade with time or sunning. I just try to keep DS from eating too many, since they are acidic and I like to keep the acidic poo to a minimum.

Mostly a lurker, but wanted to chime in....

Grapes.  I try to limit them because of the poops.  The skins go right through them and stick to the diapers, it's so hard spraying all the little skins out of the diapers.  (Not to mention it's a tedious job cutting grapes up for a 2 year old).

Oh...and mandarin oranges, little orange pieces, and SMELLY poop.

  • You still cut up grapes? I stopped doing that ages ago.

at what point is this okay? LO will be 1 next week. I don't cut up blueberries, chick peas, and raisins, but I have a maybe irrational fear of grapes and I feel like I need to cut them. I still also cut up grapes for the 2 yr old I babysit.

also actually on topic... we have been eating tons of fresh corn, blueberries, watermelon and spinach. Those poos are very very interesting. Rainbow colored and full of chunks.

I am paranoid.  I still cut them in half for my 4 year old.  I cut them in quarters for my 2 year old.  They are one of the big choking hazards, so I'd rather cut them.

I actually just found a useful tip for cutting grapes that works (I saw it on facebook).  You put them on a cutting board, then press a dinner plate over them.  You then take a knife and put it between the cutting board and the plate, sawing the grapes in half.  You can do a whole layer in one shot.

I do this between two butter dish lids.

  • I guess I'm weird then? I stopped once I knew my kid would actually chew them. I know they are chocking hazards, but lots of things are chocking hazards.

I stopped too.... DS is only a couple months younger than Nana's.
  • Grapes, blueberries (with their little poppy seed like seeds), green beans, black beans, corn. Yuck!

I haven't had anything stain, but lots of foods make for super gross poops, especially anything with skins - tomatoes, grapes, blueberries, etc. They just don't get digested I guess. Maybe when she gets some molars??

  • This makes me think...does poop not containing tomato skins normally strike everyone as pretty?

    It's poop. It's all gross

Pretty much. And once they get on solids, it all gets grosser. My vote is just that all foods don't mix.
