constant nausea

I am so thrilled to be pregnant, but right at that 6 week mark the nausea started. I am so miserable because it is constant. I haven't vomited at all, but am always sick to my stomach. Thinking of, smelling or seeing foods makes me want to get sick. Idk if anyone else is experiencing this, but I'm completely miserable!!!

Re: constant nausea

  • I was terribly sick with my daughter and now like clockwork with this one at 6 weeks I am so sick to my stomach. With both I have had vomiting as well. A few things I've tried are:
Ginger ale - made with real ginger
    Ginger hard candy
    Preggy pops or drops
Sea bands - they are for motion sickness over the counter at any pharmacy.
My OB said unisom (the sleeping pill) is approved for nausea or vitamin B6.
I hope one of these things will help you, unfortunately time is the only guarantee to feeling better!

  • Thank you! I've been trying to nibble throughout the day on bland things so I never have an empty stomach, but that hasn't helped! I'm going to try ginger products tomorrow and keep my fingers crossed this doesn't continue to 19 weeks!!

  • Just chiming in that a fellow bumpie recommends to take Unisom at night and by morning the drowsiness should wear off but it's anti-nausea effects will last through the day. I hope you get some relief.
  • Thank you for all of the suggestions! I will be trying!

  • My all day nausea just keeps getting worse.  Small meals & snacks help a little.  I also found that sugarless lemon candies help too.  Ginger ale made it worse for me, there is a lot of sugar in it & I got dehydrated.  I just had to change a poopy diaper & almost puked.  Last time my first puke was while brushing my teeth.  This time I think the poopy diaper is going to do me in first.

  • I am also going though the exact same thing. The thoughts and smells of food makes me nauseous and it is a constant, all day thing. So far I found that nothing helps but I am not done trying. I will be trying Dum Dum llollipops and assorted hand candies.

  • I threw up multiple times a day for 12 weeks with DS.  Nothing touched it.  Finally, my midwife recommended to take water and put just a tiny bit of apple juice in it.  So that you get a tiny little taste of it and tiny scent.  It was the only thing that worked for me.  Best of luck!

  • I was sick with my DS & DD up to the moment I delivered... Literally! A fail safe I've found is warm peppermint tea. Good luck and make sure to stay hydrated because being really sick and dehydrated caused me to go into pre-term labor during 2nd tri.
  • I was like this with DD. I'm scared for what it will be like like at 6 weeks this time. I'm currently 5 1/2 weeks. Whenever I her about people telling me how awful they threw up during pregnancy, I'm jealous. Throwing up would have been better. I almost did all the time. I felt crappy and crappier. It very slowly got better after 8 weeks but I felt sick for half the pregnancy. I hated those days. Give me labor and a newborn anytime but pregnancy was no fun. Totally worth it, though!
  • Currently the preview pop drops work better for me than any other candy. Luckily, they're more reasonably priced on amazon as an add on item with a prime membership. I'm currently going through a container every two days.
  • Im feeling the nausea too and it sucks. I do not want my work to know I am pregnant yet but if I keep running to the bathroom to pee 80 times and also in case I might throw up its going to get obvious pretty soon!

  • I'm sorry, I skimmed the answers. I have had all day nausea until last few days when I have tried a few thing different. First thing I have coconut water in the morning, much better at Gatorade and gets you hydrated from the night. Second I started making breakfast carbs instead of protien (I had been on high protien diet) and found carbs helped a lot. Lastly I added in a few cups of ginger tea or ginger beer (the good kind where you can actually see ginger IN the drink!!! I reccomend Fever Tree- but everyone's taste buds are different). This all has worked for ME. I have been able to function and I was curious if it was the changes or if I had just gotten over it, so I went back to eggs for breakfast and all and I was miserable again all day. Anyway- this may only work for me- but I have heard many woman swear by the coconut water!!! It seems to help a lot! Hope you feel better!!! Personally I am hoping to be spared the severe morning sickness I had last time for months on end- I don't wish that on anyone!!!

  • This morning before work I ran to Whole Foods and CVS. I got ginger snaps with a whole lot of ginger, reed's ginger ale and sea bands. I didn't read the post about carbs in the morning rather than protein but I also cut out my eggs and just had a whole wheat english muffin and I can say that this morning has been the best so far. We'll see if it lasts, but just the sea bands and ginger snaps seem to have helped!

  • I am just starting week 6 and am nauseous morning noon and night. I called my doctor finally to ask for help. She is writing me a prescription for morning sickness. I'll let you know what it is and how it works. Fingers crossed that it's great.

First pregnancy and 6 weeks and 4 days...sick as a dog! Taking antibiotics that I can't keep down so now taking Zofran which takes away the nausea temporarily but makes me dizzy and gives me a headache. Just know you are no alone...ok going to go puke now!! :((
  • The sea bands helped me all day. I was skeptical and I still don't have my hopes up that it will last, but I'm so happy this worked!
