Potty training?

Is anyone working on potty training with LO?

We bought a potty for DS just before 11 months. He's in cloth diapers and has always hated being wet. He's done so well without us pushing it and now we're almost day trained. We went out yesterday and he wore his 'big boy underwear' with no accidents, he's so proud of himself when he gets to wear them. We're a long ways from night training since he still takes an 8oz bottle at bed an occasionally a MOTN bottle, I'm not concerned with that yet and figure he will let us know when he's ready.

Jamie is currently using the potty about 3x a day (#1 only - no #2 events on the potty yet), but Simon hasn't had even an accidental go yet (we sit him on the seat at the same frequency that we set his brother on it). I'm not going to wake the boys to go at night - with each of the girls, we just made it standard practice to stop offering cups at night by 18mo, and by the time they were day trained they had pretty much stopped wetting at night all together - we stopped buying diapers for each of them before they turned 2yrs old. We don't do underpants yet tho - we only graduate to them when they start telling us they need to use the potty without prompting and we're not there yet with either of the boys.

  • We just bought a potty last weekend. We put it out so he can check it out but he is scared to death to sit on it. I fear that we are a long ways away from attempting.

  • O has gone on the potty a few times in the last week. We also CD and she wakes up dry pretty often. We are ways away from trying undies, but so far she is getting more comfortable with the concept. She has one that plays short songs when she goes and it makes her smile so big. It's also a step stool and once the little pee/poo receptacle is removed, she drags it everywhere and gets into everything. She especially likes the sink.

  • I'm so excited for you! It would be nice, but, um, E still doesn't even realize that HE is the one peeing! Lol

  • Oh my.  Hells no.  DD is almost 4 and still not night trained.  And the closest we've gotten with DS is that he loves to flush the toilet, but he's never even let us know when he has to go or anything.  Taking our sweet time here.  Good luck to you!

    My feelings exactly.
  • We just potty trained my 3YO DD and the baby is fascinated with the potty.  She sits on it whenever she gets a chance.  But she also usually chooses to pee on the floor right before she gets in the tub and doesn't have a diaper on, so I know she is in no way understanding that pee pee goes in the potty.

I'll probably wait until she's closer to 3.  Earlier if she tells me she wants to be done with diapers before that point.

We bought lo a potty and sit her on it when we go to the bathroom. We don't take her diaper off when we do it yet..

This. Potty training threads make me giggle. My kid likes to splash in toilet water and wave bye-bye to whatever is being flushed. That's as far as we've gotten.

  • DD says "yucky" when she sees me rinsing her poopy diapers.

I am just not ready for all my shopping trips to turn into store bathroom tours. How selfish is that?
Hey, I've been in that stage going on 3 years. Unfortunately... it's me that has to use every potty in town. How bad is it that I plan my shipping trips around the cleanliness of the bathroom situation?

  • Dd has been going on the potty for a few months now. She stays naked when we are home. She used to do the best with pooping and now for some reason will poop on the floor most of the time. She has maybe 1 accident a day and that is always in the evening. I finally got her panties washed. She has been loving wearing her brother's underwear. I am not confident enough to go diaperless in town though.

Yeah, no.  I wish we could entertain the idea that DS was even remotely ready, but nope.  One time he had a little rabbit turd poop out and to my absolute disgust (but, not surprise), he tried to pick it up and eat it (thankfully, did not).
  • We're doing quite well with DD1 right now, and DD2 likes to go "pee pee! pee pee!" while pointing at the potty, then sits on it and goes, "pee pee! pee pee!" while clapping excitedly. Once or twice I've gone with it and undressed her and taken off her diaper, but nothing happens. It's still really cute when she gets up, turns around, and leans over looking into the little potty to see if anything went in there.

But yeah, as someone else mentioned, DD2's diaper weighs more than her when she wakes up in the morning. We're nowhere near PTing, I don't think.

  • The real toilet = fun for throwing remotes in and climbing to get to the garbage I keep on the top of the tank/flusher that is up top :) the potty = his royal throne.

He is so focused on physical skills that he just hasn't taken the time to work on his verbal/communication skills. It's amazing how all babies/toddler develop, I love seeing what skills they excel at and focus on first. I sometimes wish he had focused on his words first so he could verbally communicate when he needs the potty, it will be great trying to potty train a little one who can actually tell you when they have to go instead of having to guess based on behaviour and trusting he will take time away from his toys/activities to go.
