Anyone else with a skinny baby?

My LO looks healthy but he definitely doesn't have any of that cute baby fat, so  he looks a lot skinnier than most toddlers.  I feel a little insecure about it sometimes though the doctor isn't concerned.   I feed as much as I can but he is very active, and I think it  just might be in his genes.

Any one else?   How are you dealing?

Re: Anyone else with a skinny baby?

  • I have 2 skinny toddlers. My 2.5yr can only keep on 18 month shorts now that she is potty trained and wearing underwear instead of diapers. My 13 month old needs cloth diapers to keep his pants up. Both my kids are tall though 60-75th %tile so my dr isn't concerned about either one. Their weights are 5-10th.

  • J is 50th percentile for height and below 10th for weight. I don't worry though. He is growing and healthy and that is all that matters.

Funny story though - We were in a hotel a few weeks ago walking through the lobby. He was holding my hand and suddenly stopped. I looked down - his shorts had fallen right off, lol.

Lol. DD cries when this happens to her.

lol...something similar happened to us...his swim shorts fell off at the pool, I had taken in the waist with a safety pin and then it came undone...major mom fail.

  • LO is on the thinner side too. 90th perceentil for height and 30th for weight. The growth curve has been consistent and there are no concerns. She's very active and doesn't have a big appetite to begin with.

  • Ds2 is a peanut. He's always around 20% for height and weight. He barely eats because he's so busy bombing around the house. He started walking at 11 months and he's now running. I'm a little concerned but he has good and bad eating days

Birdie's weight has remained between 3-10%tile for forever. Height is around 75%tile. Ped isn't concerned as he's following his own curve. Hubby and I were both skinny kids so were chalking it up to genetics as well. Let's just say elastic wastebands are a lifesaver for us! I was very concerned for awhile but have finally just accepted the fact that he's gonna be a little bean pole.

  • Same here, DD has been staying around 5-10% since birth and at about 50th for height. She's the cutest little peanut ever lol. Everyone that doesn't know she's 1 assumes she's younger. She still fits in some 9 month clothes but for the most part is exactly at 12 month size.
Ped isn't worried because she's staying in range and always gains from appt to appt. I don't worry because she really does look healthy and eats very well and healthy too and that girl can eat! Lol. I think part of my being ok with it is the same as many have said - it's genetics...DH and I are both thin so I'm not surprised she's following suit.

My LO is 75th for height and 25-50th for weight.  She has been consistently in those ranges.  My mom says I was the same.  She has a belly and some chunk on her thighs but no rolls, she never had rolls.

A is slim, her pants and skirts do tend to fall a bit but the smaller sizes don't fit. She started out chubby and has been slim for a while. She refuses to eat very much so I guess she is going to stay this way. She actually wears 18-24 months/size 2 for the most part but I can sometimes fit her into a large 12-18 months.

I think there is nothing wrong with a chubby baby or a slim baby but too many people think a baby or toddler has to have massive amounts of chubby rolls to be healthy or cute. A lot of people think bigger means better and it just is not true. Small and slim babies are cute too and can be just as healthy. Bigger is not better, just bigger. Sorry, I am just tired of having to explain this to my mother every day.

EDIT I just wanted to be clear I have nothing but love for the chubby babies. My two sons were great big chubby babies. (which is one reason my mother can not get past the size of A)
I just think the slim, skinny or more petite babies get overlooked many times.

K is on the thinner side too. 95-100% for length and only 50% for weight.

DS is exactly this. Not baby rolls here which is why I virtually squish cuties like @pnutg‌'s guy! :-)
What, 30 lbs is chubby? Jk. People think he's older than he is so they expect more. It's the price we have to pay for all those rolls:)

  • R was always a skinny baby because he is so tall (always above 95%). Right at the beginning of each growth spurt when they ate a ton, I'd have a hint of a thigh roll for a few days before the height growth took it away. My MIL always said "he needs to eat more" but he's so active I can't fatten him up. He's 2Ts in tops but is can get away with 12-18 month shorts because he lacks any kind of hips or a butt.
  • Um yah, I got asked if S was a midget by a random person at the grocery store and nobody believes she's over a year old. At her last check up she was 16lb 6 oz (3rd percentile) and almost 27 inches (2nd percentile like @nonniedee). We just started moved her into 6-9 month clothes :D
