I happy to announce that DS has used his imagination to play.
Last night, he got his plastic baby turtles and said "Come on, baby turtles, let's eat some pop tarts and grass." He took those baby turtles and bathed with them.
As far as I know, I told him turtles eat grass. DS eats pop tarts every morning before he goes to daycare.
Pretty sure DS tried to say his sister's name yesterday. I heard "Lee Lee" as he was patting her head, her name is Calleigh. I've wanted to hear his toddler version of her name so much. Music to my ears!
I changed my screen name (was mrszee2b). I figured it was time to ditch the old knot name since DH and I have been married for over 9 years
DD has been in camp this week, and both days her teacher asked them to bring something in for the following day's activities. Both days DD remembered to tell me about the requested item so I could pack it, and she gave it to the teacher when she arrived. Score one for executive function skills!
Holly got two teeth yesterday! She also has started to spin herself in a circle both ways, i'm so anxious to see how she will crawl with her little arm.
Dd woke up in the middle of the night crying. when i went to check on her she said "mommy i have an owie" and showed me where the pain was. makes life so much easier than guessing. we are also getting "i want to go..." sentences.
After spending Wednesday through Sunday with my mother, she asked me if we thought of ADHD and ODD for possible things that were going on with Chris. This sounds silly that this is a brag but she FINALLY gets it. I came clean with her today that he was recently diagnosed with both and we were told to wait to medicate him until September.
After today, however, I am making the calls tomorrow morning. We were in the grocery store and he ran all around a display at the deli counter and hit into a woman who was walking. He also let go of the cart as we were walking to the car and bolted across the parking lot. He's done nothing but argue with me today.
I called DH at work and said I was needing his support on this. HE agreed to try meds with Chris.
DS started using the signs (his approximations) for milk and more. The other moms at kindermusik commented on how social he was. We went to the pedi today and she was impressed with his progress.
We went to the local dirt track to see racing Saturday and went to the pits afterwards to get cards from the drivers and one driver ask him his name and he actually said it! I've never heard him say it before!!
DS1 is doing well with potty training. I just learned he had a #2 accident on Monday at school, but I think that's only his 3rd accident since the 2nd day.
We got out our fire pit and roasted marshmallows this past weekend, and we were all talking about telling scary stories but instead DH started a game where we each put in a sentence of the story.
It was SO fun and funny, and I loved that DD1 was able not just to follow the storyline but to add some fun twists and turns. Our story was about a bear who loved ice cream, who meets a dinosaur who wants to eat him -- the bear convinces the dinosaur to come to a shop where they have ice cream made from all kinds of leaves. But then the dinosaur invites a whole other crowd of dinosaurs to come along, the ice cream shop owner gets eaten and the shop is destroyed, and as DD1 put it, "then they all wandered away with tummy aches." LOL!
The ODD is more a 16p one. That is the primary dx and everything else is a result of. He's ignoring and walking away when people talk to him, arguing about everything, etc. For example last night he didn't want to eat his supper. My rule is you eat when you are hungry and stop when you are full ( not plate clearing ) but if you don't eat well, the next food offered when you are hungry will be that meal heated up. He flipped, kicking and screaming at me trying to get to our pantry slamming doors. I told him he had two choices, eat his left over supper or go hungry. He flipped more and I had to hold him like a football to carry him up the steps since he wasn't moving. He grabbed the railing and held while trying to kick me. He's getting bigger and I won't be able to do this soon.

I am a fan of summer med trials. It's really best if you can try meds outside of the academic year so will have him under your watch for things like side effects and dose-related glitches like activation.
ODD and ASD are not very common comorbids. It does occur, but it pretty unusual IME. Sometimes the behavioral approaches to the two conditions are at odds with each other. It can be hard to navigate as a parent. Often the schools was to ascribe everything to the "won't" of ODD rather than even consider the "can't" of ASD.
I know a couple kids who were briefly thought to have ODD when it was just extreme impulsivity/hyperactivity of ADHD. With meds and maturity, it typically gets better.

DS has become quite proficient in the water! Here is a short video of him.
I am trying to upload from Skydrive
