I'm a chronic over packer. I bought a GIANT suitcase to the hospital and of course, didn't use most of it. Here are the things I did use:
- Toiletries to take a shower, brush my teeth, etc. (Not until Day 2, but still...)
- Snacks for DH during labor & the hospital stay. Yes, there is a cafeteria, but it was nice to have a few thing right there.
- Comfy clothes and a comfy nursing bra for day 2. I stayed in my hospital gown on day one, but showering and getting dressed on day two was a great feeling.
- Dark socks... you are trudging through some serious mess sometimes on trips to the bathroom... having thick dark socks to wear made sure you weren't thinking about it too much. My own underwear was good, too (eventually)
- Chapstick, cell phone charger, laptop, camera, etc. obviously
- Boppy- very helpful!
- Nursing pads (although the hospital gave me some...)?
- Clothes to wear home, but it didn't really matter what they were.... It was nice having a sweater, though, as the temperature in the hospital varied throughout the day.
- Book/entertainment for DH- there was definitely some down time during the labor process.
- I didn't use my robe, nursing tanks, magazines, movies, books.
I still want to post my birth story, but I'm on Day 5 with the baby, and I'm surviving. It's rough, but it really hasn't been THAT bad (and SO worth it, of course!) ?
