Feeding/Sleeping Schedules?

My LO is 7 weeks as of tomorrow and our schedule is still kind of play it by ear. I'd like to get to the point where our eating schedule and down for the night schedule is predictable. Daytime naps I can still work with. I go back to work after next week so if we are going to nail down a routine I guess now is the time to give it a go. Should I just space the feedings and let her cry it out if it's not time yet? She takes a pacifier, but spits it out constantly so I need to always be around to put it back in. She does sleep through he night, but usually doesn't go down till around 11-12 and then sleeps till 7. Wakes up for 30mins-1hour for feeding and then goes back to sleep for 2more hours. I'd prefer to try to get her down by 8-9 and have her up between 8-9 if we can. I was thinking 5 bottles a day. Right now she takes 5oz for a full feeding but sometimes fusses and basically drives me insane in between feedings until I give her 1-2 more ounces. I feel like 5oz in itself is already a lot compared to other babies her age, but she's a bigger baby so maybe it's ok? She was 9lb14oz at birth and is currently like 12lbs. Any feedback or suggestions are appreciated.

Re: Feeding/Sleeping Schedules?

  • Oh, forgot to say she also spits up a ton. Eats till she's sooooooooo full and then spits up but still freaks out for more food!

  • I try to feed her smaller bottles. I tried from the start but when I say she freaks out I mean she FREAKS OUT. She wants the BIG bottle and then some. I don't get it.
  • This is like my every day. Seriously. Just back and forth and never knowing what's really going on with her. I burp her and she fights me tooth and nail. I love the times when I pick her up to burp her and she lets out a big one so I don't have to sit and fight with her. Sometimes I can't get a burp out of her even after 15-20mins and she is SCREAMING the whole time. At that point I lay her down and do the infant massage for gas and hold her legs up. Sometimes it helps, sometimes no.
  • like above said 7 weeks is to young to cry it out. And for a routine at this point in my opinion. I went back to work this week worried about eatting times etc and so far so good. Hang in there.
  • Does she fall asleep shortly after the extra ounces? DD's fighting-sleep cry sounds an awful lot like her hunger cry.

Then again, DS did this too and he really was hungry. He averaged over 30 oz of formula a day and was never chubby or spitty. He's just a big guy, tall and solid, so he required more calories and a greater amount to fill his tummy. But his number of bottles varied. He usually had more bottles with fewer ounces in them, with only one or two large bottles per day.

Some babies just don't like any unusual sensation, whether it's hunger, sleepiness, or the feel of gas bubbles. Unfortunately they just have to grow into it and develop the ability to understand and tolerate the feelings.

  • No, she doesn't always fall asleep after the extra.
  • Wow, this is the exact problem I am having! We have tried several different formulas thinking she fussed because she is uncomfortable. We just started similac soy last night and she had an allergic reaction and broke out in a bad rash so now she is on similac Alimentum and we will see how that goes. My mom and sister were saying that her tummy could have been bothering her but she thought she needed to eat so I would feed her again and then her tummy would get upset again. Everyone kept saying how crazy it is that she eats so often but ive been trying to do 4oz every 2-3 hours.
