1st Trimester

Scared that I could have hurt my baby...

So before finding out I was pregnant I smoked what is called "poppers" which is a little piece of cigarette placed in a bong with weed on top, I will admit I smoked these everyday... I have not touched anything since finding out, I am just so scared that it could have greatly affected my baby... I haven't smoked a whole cigarette in almost 7 months. I'm just worried...

So you have been still smoking partial cigarettes?

    If so please stop

Never mind, I see you havent touched anything since you found out.

I wouldnt worry about it, people find out late about pregnancy all the time (a few months in) and partake in all sorts of behavior that is not allowed (like drinking, etc.)

Sorry no I meant I haven't smoked an actual cigarette a whole one or partial one for 7 months I just have had them in the popper form..
  • There's nothing that can be done now that you haven't already done. Ask your doctor at your next appointment about it
  • Okay let me explain, I was smoking them before I knew I was pregnant. I took a HPT May 30th and it came back negative that same day I got my period so I was smoking poppers in June, when I took the HPT on July 3rd it came back as positive and I have not touched anything since that, I was smoking them before knowing I was pregnant. I haven't touched anything since that positive test.
  • I was drinking and smoking cigs/weed while a few weeks pregnant (I mistook implantation bleeding for my period in May. I didn't find out until I was already 7 weeks along).  As long as you've stopped now (and don't start again because poppers are dangerous) you should be ok.

FWIW, I drank before I found out about my first pregnancy , too and my DD is a-ok.

You can't go back in time and stop yourself from lighting up, just don't do it from this point forward.

  • Is it possible that it was implantation bleeding in May? I had a few symptoms but I took one HPT May 27th and it was negative, and then again the morning of May 30th it was also negative then the afternoon of the 30th is when I got my "period" my bleeding lasted until about June 3rd or 4th and all of my symptoms went away after.
  • It's possible.  I work two jobs and was pretty distracted but I marked down a period in my calendar for May.  I'm 9 weeks today which means it was probably implantation bleeding.  I didn't take a test until I didn't have any bleeding in June.

  • OP, you've been taking HPTs monthly for the past few months. Were you actively trying to get pregnant?

  • No I noticed I had a few symptoms in May do I thought it would be a good idea to test all the tests I took were negative, my symptoms all went away after the bleeding and then started up again mid June so when we tested July 3rd it was positive.

Possible? Maybe, but unlikely. Implantation bleeding is very rare and what you described sounds like a period, so that's what I'd assume it was. PMS symptoms are also pretty much the same as pregnancy symptoms.

  • Baby will be fine. As long as you stop there shouldn't be any issues. Most people dont know they are pregnant for the first few weeks and smoke, drink and take meds they shouldn't.

  • Maybe for future reference don't do drugs/poppers while having unprotected sex. Be healthy for YOU and baby.

  • If you are taking HPT tests two months in a row, I'm gonna assume you aren't preventing pregnancy.

I had implantation bleeding before I tested positive, as did a few people I know. I wouldn't say it's "very rare". Op, people make all sorts of mistakes while pregnant. It's great that you stopped everything when you found out. Try not to stress so much over little things. It won't get you anywhere.
That doesn't make what I said untrue. For example, one could say identical twins are very rare (less than half a percent of all births) yet several friends and I have them. In my circle identical twins may seem common, but it doesn't change the actual statistics of occurrence. Something can be very rare but seem more common depending on personal experiences and interactions.

  • Okay I had a blood test done May 29 and never called for the results because of the bleeding that I assumed it was my period. I went and got the results today and he said that it was negative.
  • Pregnant =/= unprotected sex in all cases.
Off topic - is your sig pic from Clerks? I haven't watched that movie in ages. Now I want to.

    K, carry on.
Yes. It was used in response to someone not knowing where salsa shark came from.

  • I wouldn't worry at all. I got SMASHED at a wedding and smoke a few cigs with my first baby around 4 1/2 weeks I had no idea I was preggo! She turned out just fine. I didn't touch a thing the second I found out. Your baby is very protected for the first 6-8 weeks, feeding off their own sack. Sort of a protection mode thing our body does. Also there are A TON of studies on pot smoking for pregnancy nausea. I'm NOT saying its okay to do drugs!! I'm saying I know AT LEAST three women who smoked pot through out their pregnancy to combat nausea and their babies are all amazing children now, in fact all of them were ahead developmentally (coincidence?) But they felt it was better to use something natural rather than prescription drugs. Just something to think about.
