Very positive hpt Monday but....

Hi ladies, I had a very positive hpt Monday afternoon which was such a relief after having tried for
Over a year. However, I tested again this morning (first thing) and although it was still positive it was very faint, much more faint than Monday. Is this indicative of a problem? Am I over stressing and over thinking all of this? I am
So worried.

  • If you used a trigger shot to trigger ovulation, it can make a pregnancy test show positive, and then it can slowly fade to negative over days or even over a week.

If you did not use a trigger, did you use two different brands of HPT? They can register lighter or darker just because they have different sensitivities.

Did you use concentrated first morning urine both times? It is very possible that your urine was more concentrated the first time.

If you are concerned about that, I would recommend calling your doctor to ask for a blood test. The first blood test can give a general idea of the blood HCG levels are in the preferred range, although if you are not 100% sure about when you ovulated by temping or ultrasound monitoring, the first beta test will not be informative. The second test 2 days or so later can tell the doctors if an embryo is developing normally (doubling levels about every 2 days, usually), or if the levels are not rising properly.

    Good luck!

  • Not to scare you but this has happened to me in the past and has signaled a chemical pregnancy. Basically its an 'almost' where something goes a bit wrong in implantation so your numbers get high enough to trigger a positive and then start decreasing. They are very very common and not necessarily indicative of a problem but for people like us totally emotionally sucky.

Good luck! I hope its something totally different!

  • Thanks for the responses! I did t have a trigger, but this was my first cycle on clomid. The first test I took on Monday was actually taken mid day, but I was dehydrated and hadn't urinated in a while. I was shocked when I got he strong positive! Then this morning it was my first morning urination after about 6.5 hours of sleep, but the positive was very faint. I have called my dr office and the nurse advised me that unless there is spotting or abdominal pain there is nothing to worry about, but I'm terrified of a chemical pregnancy.
  • Maybe try a pink dye test? If it's positive still, maybe go in for a beta? Good luck, OP.

  • Sorry I am a little new to making it this far, what is a pink test / beta test?
  • Pink dye tests are like first response tests (we call them FRER). They are more accurate than blue dye tests (like the ones you took), which are prone to evaps and inaccuracies. A beta test is something your doctor does (blood draw) to check for pregnancy. It's more detailed than that, but that's the gist. Are you being monitored by an RE for anything? I don't see your history in your sig.
