Genetics are actually what work....if you are prone to stretch marks the there really isn't anything that will prevent them. You can treat them to help make them fade but that's about it.
You can also go your whole pregnancy and not get a single stretch mark until after you give birth...yeah, that happened to me.
~Missed MC at 8 weeks. D&C at 12 weeks on 4/17/13~
I think it's mostly genetics, I'm afraid... Last pregnancy I used cocoa body butter from the Body Shop on my tummy whenever it felt uncomfortably tight or itchy, and I didn't get a single stretch mark, but I don't actually know if it helped or not... my mom didn't get stretch marks, and neither did her mom, so I think it was more already in my genes.
I'm curious to know if anyone has a recommendation for a non-greasy lotion that helps with the itchy skin, but doesn't leave you feeling like an oil slick all day?
I already have stretch marks from puberty so I'm confident I'll likely have them after this, but the itching on my boobs right now is ridiculous. So far I've used the mamma mio lotion, but it still leaves me feeling nasty and sticky.

I make my own lotion bars with cocoa butter, Shea butter and cocoanut oil. I use that at night because it can tend to get a bit oily , but my skin feels wonderful the next day!!

Palmers cocoa butter. Not greasy at all.
I also really love vitamin e oil and bio oil, but obviously those are more greasy. IMO bio oil actually feels like a dry oil it doesn't feel super slick to me after applying.
I used Mama Bee butter everyday in my last pregnancy. I didn't have one stretch mark once i gave birth. On the other hand, my mom has a lot of stretch marks.
@thomas930 that happened to me too. I remember doing a little happy dance at 41 weeks because I was on my way to the hospital, stretch mark free. Then about 2 weeks PP when I decided to look at my c-section scar and examine my body, I discovered what I call "skinny marks."!
Yep, genetics. I made it to about 30 weeks with DS before I started getting stretch marks. Boy did that escalate quickly. If you are fairly healthy you can try to stay hydrated and do some lotions to help minimize them.

But yeah, I agree that stretch marks are really genetic. I just slather on the coconut butter because my skin gets extra dry and tight while pregnant.
