Trouble TTC

Donated Embryos Anyone?

Hello all,

I'm about 11DPO today and got a BFN this morning on a CVS test. Checked my FRER from yesterday and saw that it was actually a very faint BFP that I missed at the time so relatively certain I'm out with a CP this cycle, which sucks, and led me into the IVF research hole.

I had never heard of donated embryos but it seems like a MUCH cheaper option. I think I'm more attached to the idea of carrying a child than I am it having my exact genetic code but it does seem very different. Have any of you all discussed this option in your families? Were the dudes super against it?

Thanks for all your thoughts in advance!

Re: Donated Embryos Anyone?

  • I would be very willing to try donated embryos, but MH would not. I think if we did all we could with IVF, he might think of it like adoption and be willing.

Sorry about your BFN. And unless that faint BFP appeared in the specified time window or slightly after it, it does not necessarily mean that the test registered a positive at all...if you are feeling sad or worried about another CP.

  • My H and I are considering it. He's hesitant because he wants to have his DNA in the child and I'm not okay with having a child that's biologically one of us, but not both of us. That's just for us, though. You do you. Talk with your husband. My H and I agreed the child will either be 100% or 0% ours, but your H may have other ideas. Good luck!

Thanks for paging me! Yes, I'm expecting our first baby through embryo adoption after a long, hard road with IF. It took DH a little bit to warm up to it, but once he came around he's been 110% invested and is grateful we ended up on this path. I've become an outspoken advocate for it and think it's an amazing option to build your family. I put together a "where to get started" link on my blog that might be a good place to begin researching. https://www.wishingonasnowflake.com/p/once-you-decide-to-begin-researching.html

As far as finances go, it can be much more affordable than some other IF treatment options depending on what route you want to go. Check out the link above and I'm happy to answer any questions. Good luck with whatever you decide!
