High blood pressure

Hi any pregnant mommy's out there have high blood pressure ONLY when in the doctor? Got admitted last week after a 150/90 reading in office. I was extremely anxious due to a scare at my 28 wk appt. Tested my blood and 24 hour urine which was negative. Now when I monitor at.home my pressure is perfect. At doc is sky rockets! Feed back positive only please!!

Re: High blood pressure

  • I also have white coat syndrome :) My dr knows this, and I get my pressure taken multiple times because the first or second reading is always high. When he takes it later manually it is back down. I would say try to relax, but I know that is impossible.

  • Yes, last pregnancy I was diagnosed with pre-e, but when I went to get my steroid shots at the hospital, my BP was normal.  I went to an osteopath later in the pregnancy, and my BP was always normal there.  I got a home machine, and my BP was normal, but my doctor's office continued to be concerned until I went into early labor.  It was stressful to have them telling me I would be induced all the time.

When I went back this pregnancy, my BP was high at the pre-conception visit.  They told me to exercise and eat better and I did.  But my BP was still high.  Finally they realized it was their machines--my body is fine when they do it manually but not with their machine.  Machines apparently can fail for some people.  Anyway, now I am 29 weeks and they just changed their policy and will not take it manually...so everyone is starting to freak out that I have pre-e again...but it is fine at home and so far it is just "elevated" at the office, not really high...so just holding on...  It is def possible to have errors or white coat syndrome.  Ask to do it later in the appt again if it is high next time.
  • Thanks for the info guys. I just can't seem to get it down much at the office. Now I have it stuck in my head so it stays high until I leave. Now in doing weekly blood pressure checks which I feel is making it worse! I am checking it CONSTANTLY at home. Only time it spikes is when I'm extremely anxious. I'm just frustrated with the whole situation.
  • Mine is kind of doing the same thing. It's been borderline high pretty much the entire time (138/88) at the drs office. When I take it on other machines (ex: at a pharmacy) it's about 10-15 points lower on both numbers. So frustrating. I have an appointment tomorrow so I'm pretty anxious to see what it'll be. :(

  • I checked my machine with a nurse and was get around 3 points difference. So machine is accurate. Unfortunately, in order to not be admitted AGAIN I have to get some good readings at the office. Which seems to be hard for me all of a sudden. I've never had this happen but now I think about it constantly so it's happening. So annoyed :(
  • I'm also confused on if I have true hypertension or just white coat syndrome. I don't want anything to be going down the wrong path for the safety of my child. But I also get confused on these sporadic readings I keep getting. I only get low numbers when calm and high when nervous.
  • How was your blood pressure today saraeric??
  • It was actually pretty good! 127/77, the lowest it's been all pregnancy at the OB's office so I was really happy about that! Thanks for checking. Hoping it will stay in that range...

  • I hope there smart enough to use the right size cuff because I literally had issues with this if it's to small the reading will be high if cuff is to big it can be below so the right cuff makes a big difference! I have pre-eclampsia this is my 4th pregnancy 5th child pre-eclampsia with every pregnancy Im 29 wks & my doctors don't expect for me to last out the wk Im dilating contractions ect! Best wishes & good luck
  • Aw no! Good luck with everything! What were some of your symptoms leading to pre-e?
