Trying to Get Pregnant

Howdy! {intro}

I've been reading around TB the past couple of weeks, and finally got brave enough to say hi!
My DH and I have been together for 5 years, married for nearly 2, and we are finally TTC!
I was diagnosed with PCOS back in April. I just finished taking my BC last week, and am waiting on good old Aunt Flow to get here to get this party started! I don't think I've ever been so excited for a period in my life.
Because of the PCOS we are going the clomid route this cycle. I don't O on my own, so I'm curious to see if it'll work. I have been taking my BBT to get in the habit of taking it once my cycle starts, and plan on checking my CM and have my OPTs on standby.
I am so excited and super nervous to see how this journey goes! GL to all of you, and have a great day!

  • Welcome.
Son: Jackson, 11/02/06, stillborn due to PPROM and IUGR. Over the next ten years we had 9 miscarriages from 8-14 weeks. On May 18, 2016 my daughter, Ridley, was born. We're OADNBC.

  • Welcome.

A word about the Clomid: Clomid can affect your temps as well as any sort of OPKs. They aren't necessarily accurate while you are medicated, which is why it's highly advised (it's even on the little booklet that you should get with your medication) that you be monitored by a doctor with timed blood work and ultrasounds throughout your cycle while you are on it.

PCOS isn't a reproductive death sentence, many women who have it get pregnant with no intervention. How do you know that your cycles are annovulatory? Especially since you just started temping and haven't used OPKs. Did your doc do testing to determine that? Are you seeing an OB for your Clomid prescription? Did they just hand you the scrip, tell you to take it on certain days and leave it at that? I only ask because you don't mention monitoring.

Clomid can have some nasty side-effects, some of which can affect your fertility negatively in the future, so make sure you're an advocate for your own health.

Thank you! I didn't know that it could effect my BBT or OPK.
I used OPKs from December-April without seeing a positive. I went on BC in April bc I would go for months without a cycle. I've been irregular ever since I got my first period. I stopped testing once on the pill. To diagnose, the OB drew blood and performed an ultrasound.
I'm now seeing a new OB, and she did write me a scrip for clomid. I will start taking it on CD 5, go in for an ultrasound/follicle test CD 12, and have blood drawn a week after that. I haven't picked up the clomid yet from the pharmacy.

I have friends that have and haven't been able to conceive with PCOS, so I have been keeping my head up so far.

I'll gladly take any advice I can get! Thanks again!
  • I'm glad you have a doc that's going to be doing ultrasounds to check the follicles. Sorry if I came on strong, we have a lot of people who come on here and think Clomid is magic baby candy, but it seems like you have your head on straight about that.

I was on Clomid this cycle (not for PCOS, so I can't speak to that) and it was interesting. It medically went fine, but there were definitely some not so fun feelings, and hot flashes like crazy, which is really fun in the summer. It also seemed to dry up my CM a bit. I hope CD1 comes for you soon and best of luck!

  • Thank you, @divinemsbee‌ I really hope you get a BFP! And thank you for sharing your experience taking clomid. Ill be interested to see the results! I'll more than likely be on vacation when I start taking it, so I'm hoping to try to mentally distract myself from the side effects (as if that's possible lol).
It's hard to not get my hopes up that it'll work the first go round, but I know we could be TTC for a while.
    Thanks again! GL!

  • Thanks guys!!
  • Welcome! I definitely agree with the PP, as with any medication clomid can affect your BBT and OPK, it didn't for me, I know only because I've charted for nearly a year and have my norms down to a science. I was a lucky one with no negative side affects. You'll figure it all out but hopefully your stay here is short!
