vasectomy, you say?

hello O13!!  i'm wandering over from A14 to ask a question that most of my friends over there can't answer quite yet, given our recent baby-having timetable.

my husband is having a vasectomy in a few days and i'd love to hear some feedback about the whole process.  what was the experience like for your men?  did you find anything other than the typical rest and ice to be particularly helpful?  how long did it take to get a zero sperm count?

thanks!

We haven't personally been through this, but a couple of our friends/neighbors have and honestly any discrepancy in their experiences had more to do with a difference in doctor. Most of them all went to the same doctor and had a great experience and healed fine/quickly enough. Not sure about the sperm count part. They didn't go into *that* much detail.

Congrats on your relatively recent arrival.

  • My husband did it when my youngest was 3 weeks old. We knew we were donzo. The pain was really bad for about 3 days and then just sort of painful for the rest of the week. He got zero sympathy from me bc- well, I was still recovering from pushing a small watermelon out. He found frozen Peas to be more moldable. And Tylenol 3.

  • I am going to try hard to muster some fake sympathy for him, but it's going to take some serious acting skills.

10 bucks says I will let "you DID watch my vagina split open twice now, right?" slip before Sunday is over...

Ok good... Tylenol, peas, and someone on A14 suggested a jockstrap. Anything else?
