August 2014 Moms

Sharing your childhood with your LOs?

Right now my boys are sitting and watching Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers. They also watch Tailspins and Tom and Jerry. Even Punky Brewster.

What are some of your childhood memories/activities do you hope to share with LOs

Re: Sharing your childhood with your LOs?

  • I fully plan on having them watch the movies and shows we enjoyed as kids. Also, playing with all my old toys. I basically am very excited to get to relive my childhood to a point.

DS plays with all my old Fisher Price Little People as well as a lot of other old toys my mom saved.

He goes to the preschool I went to and right now to the summer camp associated with it that I also went to.  I'm so happy he gets to do this for even a short period since we'll be moving across the country this fall.

I love that he's really into reading Berenstain Bears right now because those books were some of my favorite.  He also really likes other books I remember enjoying like Katy and the Big Snow, Mike Mulligan and his Steam Shovel, Cat in the Hat, etc.

I think Buggs Bunny and Road Runner and those cartoons will be on the agenda.

I had old school Robin Hood on the other day.  It's the old cartoon movie with Robin as a Fox.  I think it's from the 70's.

I played outside a lot as a kid.  I didn't have a lot of outside toys.  My cousins and I would build stuff with sticks and climb trees.

Basically, I plan on sending my kid into the stone age.

  • I just got DS a tub of Lincoln logs for his birthday. I love them. He doesn't quite get how they stack yet.

  • DD has a bunch of toys we want to play with. The IKEA train set, play dough and the fun tools, and blocks. She likes them too and it's fun to play with her. Nearly all of her books were mine as a kid.
  • I was a super tom boy. I hope lo wants to build things. Both my husband and I cannot wait to have Legos and trucks in the house! Lincoln logs and a train set are also things I never had but always wanted!

Growing up I loved to watch The Elephant Show. I'm certain it was a Canadian TV show, but we used to get CBC growing up in Detroit.  My mom never saved my toys growing up, but I have a rocking horse that I'd like for the LO to use.

  • Stuck in the quote box, but I also loved Little People and the Bernstein Bears books! Those would definitely be two of the things I would like my daughter to like, as well as just loving to read like I did. I will probably facilitate this by taking her to story hour like my mom always took me to. I also really liked to play dress up, so I want her to have a good trunk of dress up clothes.
