BFing at the end of the day

Does anyone else feel totally out of milk by the end of the day? Maybe DS is just a lazy nurser, but there are days when I feel he isn't getting much come evening time and he's fussy at the breast. Just wondering if anyone else feels that way or if I'm just paranoid.

funny you should say this... my husband has been upstairs trying to bounce tessa to sleep for 20 minute now, and she's having none of it. i think she didn't get a great final feeding, so i'm about to head up there and see if we can wring a few more drops of milk out of these dry old boobs.

I have felt the same in the past week. One or two afternoon feedings I feel empty early & he seems pissed about it but I'm full late at night & every morning & he's a big baby so I'm going to try not to fret over it for now.

even though i've been there done that and all and i realize the supply is dynamic and will meet the demand, i still do get paranoid that she's not getting enough at times. it's part of the reason why i'm looking forward to 2 1/2 months from now when we introduce solids. there's a nice mental buffer when you know you can always give food as an additional means of calories.

Yes, I've felt this way every single evening since he arrived! I keep trying to up my water intake but it hasn't helped much.

We've been dealing with this the last few weeks. I feel like after he cluster feeds all afternoon, there isn't much there by the time he gets super fussy (which is when we put him to bed). We've started giving him a small bottle of pumped milk at bedtime (like 2oz) to calm him down a little bit, then nurse until he falls asleep. Then I pump before I go to bed (and that usually becomes the next night's bottle). It seems to be working.

It's normal. It's due to prolactin levels which cycle throughout the day and are highest in the wee hours. There was a really great article about it a few years back but I can't remember who wrote it but kelly mom has some articles about the circadian rhythm of breastfeeding. But yes, to answer your question yes, us here to, and we have over supply problems.

Yesssss. I don't worry about it from a weight gain perspective bc DS it on track, but it is so heartbreaking/frustrating when he will nurse for 2-3 minutes and just get PISSED at my boob. I know he's hungry, and then I feel all inadequate. Hoping it will improve soon. Ate some oatmeal and hydrated well today. FX!

Yep- we started giving him an ounce of pumped milk in a bottle after he eats on both sides before bed. Helps a ton.

Thanks everyone. Not that I want anyone to suffer, but I'm glad I'm not alone. So much of this parenting stuff is so "is this normal or is it just me" that it's good to have some feedback.

Same issue here. I noticed days I eat a ton it seems a lot better and days I stick to MFP I don't have milk in the evening.

Lo is fussy at night and just wants to comfort nurse herself to sleep. I like the snuggle time.

It does feel like I have less milk in the evening but LO seems satiated.
