antibiotics during TWW

I made an ass of myself earlier, but hopefully that doesn't keep you from looking at this thread. Anyway, I've never come across this before so I'm sorry if it's another one of those annoying newbie threads. I literally just got done w/ a root canal couple hrs ago, my first one ever. Well it's a partial, they're going to finish the rest of it along w/crown this sat schedule willing. Right now I've got a temporary filling just to protect the tooth. Dentist prescribed me an antibiotic, which I have to take for 10 days. I'm not going to disobey the order to take it, b/c the health of my tooth is important right now.

I'm on 5dpo right now. Yes I ovulated. If I have a fertilized egg floating in my uterus right now possibly getting ready to implant, will the antibiotic harm the chances of it becoming a viable pregnancy?

I normally don't take meds, even otc (besides vitamins). I'm all about natural healing, mainly w/ essential oils, but my broken tooth was something that obviously I couldn't look over. I heard safe/non safe arguments about antibiotics during pregnancy, but I have no factual info for antibiotics during ttc.

  • Take the antibiotics or deal with a potentially nasty infection. Your choice.

  • So let me over think it. Because I analyze everything.

I never said I wasn't going to take it. Actually I said clearly, I am not going to disobey the order to take it because the health of my tooth is important.

And I'm not treating myself as if I'm already pregnant. I merely wanted to know the medical side of antibiotics has any potential risk.

Even if it did, ok so I'm still taking the med and just dealing with whatever comes my way. But holy shit, I didn't realize I can't analyze any medical information/side effects unless I'm indeed pregnant. Got it thanks
  • I really don't think this is the board for you.

You might be right. I've enjoyed the snarkiness in some areas, but honestly I don't feel there's any room for newbie error. Any other board maybe full of rainbows and glitter, but they also allow room for newbs to find their place. All that newbies are expected to do here is lurk lurk lurk. Then post when they dare.

Maybe I'll fit in when I can obtain the proper amount of lurking. But all anyone needed to say was "you have nothing to worry about, wont harm tww". Instead of overskipping the part where I said I'll take the antibiotic, and repeatedly telling me to take the damn thing or deal with infection.
  • I mean, do I think that all doctors (or dentists) are infallible beings who make 100% correct decisions all of the time? Of course not, as is obvious by the amount of people who come on here who have doctors that are willing to prescribe them potentially dangerous medications with no monitoring. But, do I think that a dentist prescribing antibiotics after a root canal falls under that. It's the right thing to do.

You can't lock yourself in a bubble. If you're questioning something as harmless as this now, what's it going to be like for you when you are actually pregnant? You'll lose your mind with worry over if this or that could cause issues. And then become one of the really annoying posters on 1st Tri. Look, if it's really going to bother you, do a cursory Google search of respected sources (not realnaturalnewsblackhelicopters.net) or just ask your doctor. Because your doctor is going to say that the risk of contracting and then fighting an infection (with possibly stronger antibiotics) is going to be worse for any pregnancy than prophylacticly taking what he's prescribing you.

  • I even took antibiotics while I was pregnant..so yeah you're overthinking it a bit, but talk to your doctor if it makes you feel better.

  • I am an overthinker, I over analyze everything because that's how I process information. I'm not a simple person who just takes a yes or no answer. I like to know details, the how's and whys. That is who I am. And while it may be obsessive to you ladies, it hasn't driven me crazy at all during my TTC. In fact, the more information I understand, the more relaxed I am. It's in the not-knowing that makes me crazy. This is how I learn.

So should I never post because everytime I do, if I over think the tiniest thing, my throat gets jumped down?

I'll lurk or I'll decide to leave. But I can see for now my posting is doing no good. I understand you ladies have a certain way of being on this board. And if I'm to be a part of the board I have to learn how to fit in. So this is not a "goodbye bitches" type of thing.

Ok as far as the how's and whys, you should call your doctor instead of asking us then. These ladies have given you answers already. How much more do you want them to tell you?? I feel like you're beating a dead horse.

Does anyone else ever read this phrase as "beating off a dead horse"?
  • OP, everything you seem to post is ridiculous or just drama. It comes across as trying way too hard. It's not the fact that you're new that others treat you this way, it's your attitude.

  • I was lurking and wanted to hijack the thread to ask a technicality question. Isn't it possible to be pregnant during the 2ww? If your egg was fertilized then you are pregnant and at that point you are waiting for enough hcg to test which is then the 2ww. Am I wrong? But you'll just never know if you were pregnant those two weeks until you test.

You can take antibiotics (cleared by your OB) while pregnant even. As others have said, until the HPT is positive you don't really have to worry about it.

  • @Joy2611 you just totally blew my mind with all of that science. I love that people here know so much about stuff I know zero about. Definitely should have considered more learning and less partying in college. Oops. But seriously - that was some solid info!
Agreed @Joy2611.  Thanks for sharing that information.  I wonder if you any input as to what to do when antibiotics can't/don't kill the said bacteria.

When I first signed up, I also posted some ridiculous questions, not having read the newbie blog or lurking for longer.  After realizing I needed to take a step back, and not post threads that have been answered a million times, I'm much less stressed and enjoy participating in the WTO and 2WW threads.  And, I'd rather have blunt honesty then sugar coating bullshit.

  • That's really interesting @Joy2611.  DH has gram negative bacteria, didn't respond to any antibiotics (he tried them all) and then decided to live with it (he has bacterial prostatitis).  He's also waiting for scientists to come up with new antibiotics, hopefully that'll come sooner than later.  Sorry for diverging off topic.
