Damon and Elise's Birth Story (XP from July 2014)

Okay it's taken me awhile, but here's how my babies entered the world! And it's probably a bit long.

I was called at 8am on Friday July 4th to come in for my induction at 37w1d. We didn't rush, they told us to shower and eat and come by as soon as we could. So, we got to the hospital around 10:30am. Got in the room probably around 11ish.

Anyways, of course they had to do an NST before starting the oxytocin. Babies had been pretty uncooperative in their last few NSTs. So, today was no different. Took like 1.5-2 hours to get 20 freaking good minutes of both babies. Once we got 20 minutes I wanted to just sit up b/c my back was killing me from lying down, and I was told they'd start the oxy after 20 minutes of a good read. However, the nurse didn't do a reading for the next 15 minutes nor did she start the drip, so we needed to do another 20 minutes. Ahh!!

For the next NST, they had lots of difficulty and were only finding the same HB on both monitors, so they called the OB back in to help them find where their HBs were. So he comes in, finds Baby B no problem, right where we thought she would be. Then he's looking for Baby A and asks me if they've been moving a lot, and I tell him yes, and he goes back to the screen. I overhear him talking about how he can't really find his HB well and he's not really moving. I start saying, "just take them then!" and he says yes so he starts saying stat a lot and making calls and everything around me is a blue. I start crying. And DH of course isn't there right now btw (he went home to give something to MIL and take dogs to boarding since nothing had been happening and he figured he had time), so I'm more of a mess!

They wheel me off and I'm terrified, I think my baby boy is dead and I'm alone. I go in for the C-section and cry more and b/c the c/s is kinda scary on its own, let alone the fact I'm having it b/c my son looked bad, and my DH is nowhere. So I'm alone. Getting cut open. I really wanted to hold someone's hand, but there was no one there. Anyways, after a few minutes I guess, I hear a super loud cry and the OB saying "Baby A!" and I'm overjoyed. Then, maybe seconds later, I hear more screams and "Baby B!" I was beyond relieved and breathed a huge sigh of relief and cried happy tears.

So Damon Ryan and Elise Kathryn were born at 3:44pm on July 4th. He was 6 lbs 8 oz and 19 in, and she was 5 lbs 11 oz and 18 in. Also, I asked the OB who delivered them how their cords were, and Damon's was tightly wrapped around his neck, and Elise's was tight around hers, too. Actually inducing could have been very bad. I was horrified since DD's cord was around her neck 5 times!

DH didn't make it until I was pretty much ready to go to the recovery room, which was awful. So he went alone with the babies to our room and I went to recovery. It was so traumatic and upsetting, but I was also so beyond relieved both of my babies were totally healthy. After an hour they brought DH and the kids to me so I got to see them up close and feed them and stuff. Damon's sugars were a smidge high, so they needed to give him formula, and his sugars were high a second time, then great!

We've been well. This c/s sucks, but I'm surviving. They're doing well. We decided on just feeding them formula like with DD and their weights are pretty good still. It's been helpful having DH feed one while I feed one, or MIL helping, or whoever. There's times I really need to just lie down. It's been an adjustment with DD, but I think she's doing okay so far!

Here's a pic DH took of us. Never had one like this with DD so I really wanted something with these guys.
