Bottle feeders- how long does it take?

LO is in daycare and they said he takes a long time to eat so I'm just curious how long it takes your little ones to eat? Daycare said he took 35 min for 3 oz

What bottle are you using? What is the nipple size? How long does it take your LO to eat 4 or 5 oz?

  • 8 weeks old with slow flow if he's super hungry can be 10 mins for 4 oz, or 20 if he's just in a grazing mood.

  • Hmmmm curious to see what u ladies say... LO chugs the things when she actually takes one. 10 min for 3oz maybe. And that's w a slow flow. I always think she's gonna hurl but she keeps it down.

Interested in others' responses.. For her, it varies. Can take as long as 20ish minutes. If in a ravenous mood, maybe 10. It usually takes atleast 15-20 min though on average.

Generally 15-20 mins for 3 1/2 oz. But I stop a lot for burps Bc of reflux. On other formulas that she doesn't like as much it's taken longer. We use doctor browns, level one nipple.
  • LO is 7 weeks. We use dr. Browns bottles and it takes him between 10 minutes and 15 minutes to drink 4oz. We stop every 2 ounces to burp. It could take him longer if he is grazing. My LO is an animal so I'm pretty sure that's quick lol.
  • DD is 9wks and takes anywhere from 25 to 45 minutes to drink 5oz. I go slow though, take lots of breaks, burp her frequently.
  • LO is almost 8 weeks. Takes 15 during the day but DH says sometimes 30 at night if he is sleepy. My MIL said the medela bottles go way too quick even with the slow flow nipple. He will chug those in 5 minutes.

LO makes a mess with the medela bottles! I had so many and stopped using them.

Ya now I only use them to pump. Or if I haven't done dishes
  • Ok it doesn't seem like he's taking too long. I wonder if he takes a little bit longer because he needs to get to know the lady who feeds him?? He's all smiles for her so he likes her. I'm just afraid that they will stop feeding him before he's full because he takes so long.

I have both NUK and avent bottles

We had to stop using NUK bottles because it would take her forever to finish 4oz. Closer to 45 min!

  • Do your babies dribble milk while feeding? I felt like half the milk was wasted down the chin on other bottles that's why we liked the NUK ones.

  • We use Dr. Brown bottles nipple size level 1. He drinks between 5-6oz. And recently he has been doing it in 20mins or so. A few weeks ago it was taking him about 30-40mins to eat.
  • @Jelainey24‌ when DD used bottles with the wrong flow she would dribble a lot. We mostly use Lifefactory, Como Tomo and have now gone back to Avent level 1. But when she was young the Avent level 1 was even too fast for her.
  • Dr brown premie flow nipple since LO is EDF except for the daily bottle with reflux meds. 1 ounce in 5 minutes. Level 1 nipple is still too fast for her.

  • DD is 7 weeks and chugs her bottles most of the time, it's like a feeding frenzy. For 4oz she takes about 15 min would be shorter probably but we burp her a lot b/c she has some reflux.

  • It usually takes DS about 15 minute to finish 4-5oz.  That includes a burp break.

Yes. We found that she wasn't 'latching' to the bottle. She needs a bottle with an extra wide base. I took this picture to show my MIL when I finally figured out the issue..

The 2 on the left have small bases so leaked like crazy and the 2 on the right are what are working for us. Nuk isn't pictured here but it was on the small base side.

  • Now I feel like my LO eats like a piggy LOL

She's 8w and takes between 5-6 oz, Dr Brown's level 2 nipple, in about 20 mins.

    Girlfriend likes to eat :)
