Abuela update (N3TR)

Since I've been here, I have spent a lot of time with Abuela. We watched fireworks from her apartment on the 10th floor (spectacular view of the Coronado fireworks show), we've gone out to dinner, coffee, and of course...to doctor appointments. Yesterday was the big consult to determine the course of action. Her cancer is ovarian (with only one spot on the colon to be removed), and highly aggressive (stage 3). The aggressive part is bad news, but it's not as spread out as we thought and she has the health of a 60 year old, so she's an excellent candidate for treatment.

Her surgery will take place Friday, July 18th. For those of you praying, please reach out to any prayer chains or churches and extend the prayers. Pray for healing, comfort, peace, and acceptance in the event of a tragic outcome.

I'm terrified this is the last 10 days I will spend with her, but I'm doing my best to stay positive for her. Please pray that my brother and my dad will make it out here to see her. My brother is doing his best, but my dad is still acting like a victim over the *super long* (sarcasm) 6 hour drive from Phoenix. He has many health issues, but he would be able to make it if he tried harder and stopped feeling sorry for himself.

Sorry for the long post. Thank you to all the supportive people on here, especially to the couple that have reached out beyond TB. Your support has given me the strength and courage to keep going on days when I just want to cry (which I've managed to hold back for most of the trip). And I will post the TPT thread tomorrow, so don't worry!

Thanks for keeping us updated! Y'all are in my prayers every single night and you'll stay there. It's good to hear that she's an excellent candidate for treatment. I've seen so many miracles of modern medicine. Stay strong, sweetie. I'm so glad you're getting this precious time with her! HUGS!

That could be it. We have lost my mom, his aunt, his uncle, and two of his cousins all in the last 3 years. His coping mechanisms have never been strong to begin with, so I think he's just not able to deal with the strong possibility of losing his mom on top of all of that.

Lady, my heart is breaking for you right now.. I hate that you have to deal with yet another level of uncertainty. You are so strong to deal with this right now and an incredible granddaughter to be with Abuela at this time. I really really really hope you realize this.

Is YH going to be able to make it back out with the new developments, or is he unable to come out? I am so desperate to help that I'm willing to call your H's work and pose as his cousin "Ketchup" with an emergency that Holman H needs to attend to right away.. but, that clearly makes zero sense and sounds insane. I just want to do something. I guess all we can do over here is pray.. and pray we will. Please let me know if you need anything. That's an order.

Thanks, everyone. I made a 'date' with her to get hospital-approved PJs and slippers, and for her to teach me her most famous recipe, congri (Cuban black beans and rice dish....most incredible thing ever). Then we will have dinner with a bunch of family and friends. We are going to spend as much time with her as possible over the next few days until the surgery.
