What makes you High Risk?: I'm a really good blood clotter and have a jerk thyroid (Hashimoto's)

How are you managing?:  I am terrified of delivering with my blood clotting issues--any other blood clotters on here with similar fears or ST(Blood-clotter)Ms with positive experiences???

Appointments/Rants/AW/etc: Monthly check up today!  Love to hear her heartbeat! <3  (But it's less exciting now that she's a routine kicker!)

GTKY - What was your favorite movie growing up? Toss up between the Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast!

Appointments/Rants/AW/etc: Looking forward to my A/S on Tuesday. It was scheduled so late! I'm feeling it's a girl, but I think that's just because our first was a girl. I'll meet with my MFM after the u/s.

  • EDD/Weeks:  11.13.14/22 Weeks tomorrow

What makes you High Risk?:  Previous unexplained early delivery with DS, Multiples this time

How are you managing?:  I seem to be managing fine.  Just have the typical aches and pains of pregnancy.  The exhaustion and shortness of breath have been hardest for me to deal with.  Luckily, everything seems to be going smoothly with this pregnancy, but it was the same way with my first, so I have some anxiousness before every appointment that something bad will happen.

Appointments/Rants/AW/etc:  Not much really.  Have another appointment (I go every two weeks) next week and hopefully everything still looks good.

GTKY - What was your favorite movie growing up?  I love Goonies growing up.  Now, I would have to say something sappy like Steel Magnolias or cool like Almost Famous.
    DS born August 2011
    TWINS are on the way!
  • I don't belong to this check-in I belong to the twins bored so I don't know if I can belong to multiple check ins... I am just a creeper because I am high risk. Lol!!! @Lilwatz‌ and @NinerGirl52‌ I had a stroke on 4/5/14 at 6 weeks PG. I had two clots in my temporal lobe. I also take Lovenox which I store in my bedroom but the temps have not been overwhelmingly hot here. This is my third pregnancy but first after having a stroke and on Lovenox. I also had PP preeclampsia with my last delivery. Plus add in the twins I am very nervous about delivery. I figured we were kinda in the same boat. Has your OB's mentioned what would be the optimal method of delivery or when to switch from Lovenox to Heparin?
  • @Amandakea15 - Holy smokes, that scary!! I'm so glad you are ok now!! My Dr. has no plans of switching me off lovenox. I've actually never had a blood clot, just at a high risk for one, so they are keeping me on baby aspirin (not the norm for pregnancy) AND lovenox, all while monitoring my platelet counts on a regular basis. Next appt. I'll be discussing with my Dr. what the optimal method of delivery will be.

Thanks for the heads up on storing your lovenox. I went ahead and put mine in our pantry as its the coolest place in our house (second to the refrigerator).

I've just been keeping mine in our bathroom (it's ridiculously large and so does not get hot while the sower is running).  We keep the thermostat at 77 degrees.  Am I ruining it!?!?!?

  • @NinerGirl52‌ I Am taking the baby aspirin as well but I am not getting regular bloodwork . I also take Labetolol twice a day for the blood pressure. What is your dosage of Lovenox? My hemo said I had to switch to the heparin if I wanted to get an epidural. Since I am having twins the likelihood of having a c/s is there as well. I guess Lovenox is a long acting and there is nothing to reverse it, with the heparin there are more options. I guess you can get a spinal blood clot which could case paralysis. But my hemo kept stressing that was with a treatment dose not a prophylactic dose. My OB nor I want to take the risk. @lilwatz 77 degrees is room temp so that is the max. I think if it is higher occasionally that is fine too.

I know you didn't ask me, but...  I am on Lovenox as well and my plan from my high risk is to switch me to heparin for the final 3-4 weeks for the same reasons.  I was told I cannot get an epidural on ANY thinner (Lovenox or Heparin) but like you said, the Heparin has a shorter half-life and so will be out of your system faster.  One of my delivery plans (to be sorted out later apparently!) is to get completely off the thinners then to induce.  I don't know how I feel about that, but with my severe clotting past I will do pretty much whatever the experts tell me to with regard to the clotting.

    EDD/Weeks: Nov 14th - 22 weeks tomorrow

What makes you High Risk?: Pulmonary Embolism found at 10.5 weeks, GD insulin controlled, Low PappA, history of polyhydramnios (too much amniotic fluid)

How are you managing?:  On 140 mg lovenox 1x/day, baby aspirin, insulin, bi-weekly ultrasounds & OB appts.  Overall I'm doing ok.  Just came back to work yesterday after being off due to the PE since Easter.  Surprisingly, working at a desk job is more restful than being at home with 2 small children. Ha.

Appointments/Rants/AW/etc:  Was in the ER again on Monday night due to increased chest pain & increased shortness of breath.  Apparently, this is what I can expect for up to the next 2 years.  It's part of the healing process.

GTKY - What was your favorite movie growing up? I'm with @chmwilliams, Annie was my favorite.  I used to drive my mother crazy singing the songs around the house.

Appointments/Rants/AW/etc: Tired of appointments that are 3 hours away (6 hour round trip)- Scared of having him that far away and won't be able to see my older son. Scared of the unknown with little man.

  • @Lilwatz‌ Feel free to jump in you are in the same boat, I feel like I have 30 different plans. I seen my hemo on Monday. He said with the Heparin there were more reversal options if I had taken a dose close to the time I went into labor. At this point the plan is for me to stay on the Lovenox till 32-34 weeks depending on the twins. After delivery back on Lovenox for 12 weeks. As far as I know I will be staying on some type of thinner. But I also did already have two clots and I am having two babies. So we have different backgrounds. It is such a guessing game. @NinerGirl52‌ I take 60mg daily which is very low dose, yours is as well. That is probably why you won't switch. My hemo said the likelihood on the lower doses of anything happening was very low. My dose will most likely increase since it is weight based and I am gaining with the babies. No it isn't weird you have a possibility and since pregnancy is a hypercogulative state it makes sense they would do it as a precaution. :)

Ha!  Yes, I take 100mg TWICE daily.  But I have had some serious clots in the past and my hematologist did not want to mess around here.  :)

  • 11/12 - 22 weeks & sons change

    Lupus (sle)

Managing-so far so good. I started taking medicine that seems to have helped my mini flares.

Appointments - best part is all the additional scans I've gotten of my little jumping bean. The multiple appointments make me feel I never have a day off to myself though.

    Fav movie was/is: lion king
