Wednesday Check In

How are you doing today? What wonderful or terrible or in-between things do you have to share with the group?

How environmentally-friendly are you on a scale of one to ten, where one equals wondering whether recycling is still a thing people do and ten equals only washing your hair once a week with baking soda?

My insomnia is getting worse every day. Grumble, grumble, grumble.

I'm probably at about a seven on the environmentally friendly scale. I recycle everything at home, but I'll toss things in the trash at work if I can't recycle them there, like food packaging that I could just rinse out and bring home. I don't carpool, but I drive a fuel efficient vehicle. I check to see how toxic and environmentally bad my cosmetics are, and I read labels to make sure I'm not killing off the ecosystem with my face scrub granules, but I still feel relieved when I find that a product I love hasn't had enough research to prove that it's evil. I always buy cage-free eggs, but only sometimes buy grass-fed beef.

So Sleepy!!!!!  But I feel amazing, and feel like I look good.  Weird thing, I think DH is nesting...  is that normal?  lol.

I think I'm fairly normal.  I recycle plastic bottles and cans, I use reusable grocery bags, I don't use products that are tested on animals.

  • Pretty good we lost power last night so slept at the in-laws for AC reasons. I don't sleep well without it especially with a heater living in my belly. Trying to finish up buying the stuff for the LOs room seeming it may take 6-8 weeks to deliver. Bringing me right up to the last month of pregnancy. Undecorated room before he makes his arrival, equals undecorated room for a LONG TIME.

I would say a 5... I try to do my part, however, I'm not the most granola out there.

  • I am having to get back into the swing of things today after being off for several days.  However, only working about half a day due to pedi tour and then endo appointment.  New MFM appointment tomorrow - hopefully these are better than the last ones.

How environmentally-friendly are you on a scale of one to ten?  Probably about a 4 or 5.  We recycle most items at home and work and reuse most of the plastic grocery bags for other tasks.  Also get most of our fruits and veggies from an organic delivery service from a localish farm (as they are very fresh and taste better).

I'm feeling pretty good today!  Excited to be 26 weeks and finally catching up on the sleep I lost over the weekend, just in time for another long weekend :) Tomorrow is our first birthing class/tour of the hospital...pretty excited about that! Is it terrible that I can't wait for my little brother's wedding to be over with, like counting the seconds?? I can't stand his soon-to-be bride...

Ummm....I'd say a 7 I guess?  I'm big on conserving energy and reusing what I can, but I do take a shower everyday...I didn't know that buying free-range was a "green thing" but I only buy meat from my brother who is a farmer, and his is hormone & steroid free. I just do it because the meat is SO much better/healthier/cheaper this way! I will be a cloth diaper mama and I will make my own baby food...I do recycle/upcycle.  We do have a garden, and we drive efficient vehicles...but many of those things are because it's the most cost effective/cheapest...being green is just an added bonus for me...

Okay so last night and now again just a few minutes ago, the little monster just kicked so hard I saw a little something pop out further than just a bump on my skin.  Creeeepy.  The alien has begun trying to get out.  I swear this little guy is going to be SUCH a terror I feel :)

Edit:  Because I never answer the second question - le sigh.  I'm not as green as I should be, although Switz. is way greener than the US.  I give myself a 6 since you'll have to pry the SLS out of my cold dead hands before I wash with baking soda.

  • Today I'm doing pretty well.  I got a decent night's sleep last night, so I tend to have good days after that.  Had a little headache, but half a coffee took care of it.  In more exciting news, we got a crib mattress last night, so that's pretty exciting!  Now I just need the furniture to come!

On the environmental scale, I'm probably a 6 or 7.  I recycle everything at home, use stainless steel water bottles & reusable cups if we're out, but don't stress too much about having to throw something away if recycling isn't available. I grow a small organic garden in the summer, and try to buy local produce during the summer/fall. I can and preserve some of it for winter (mostly just pickles, jams, and applesauce).  I buy local Amish chicken and eggs (cage free/antibiotic free), but if they weren't easily available at my grocery store I probably wouldn't.  Local and environmentally friendly beef/pork is a special treat when I can find it for a decent price.  I use some environmentally friendly soaps/cosmetics, but find a lot of them just too expensive or not effective for me.  Honestly, if we had a little more $ I would probably be a lot more environmentally friendly in my purchases.

  • How are you doing today? What wonderful or terrible or in-between things do you have to share with the group?  Doing ok today, nothing wonderful or terrible to report.  I just feel huge this pregnancy compared to my first; I'm definitely not enjoying it as much this time around.

How environmentally-friendly are you on a scale of one to ten?  Probably about a 7, although if we had more money, it would probably be higher.  I recycle everything, have an organic garden in the summer, try to buy local organic produce when it's available, free-range chicken eggs (from a friend's flock), drive an efficient vehicle, use environmentally friendly cleaners/detergents/soaps/etc.  We try and buy grass-fed, free-range local meat when we can but it's super expensive and we don't have the freezer space to buy in bulk right now.

I think I'm doing pretty well today. I resisted the urge for doughnuts for breakfast this morning so personal high five there. On the downside I'll probably give in before this weekend.

I really don't think I'm that environmentally friendly. I like to reuse water bottles and I have canvas bags for the grocery store. We recycle our cardboard but everything else just seems inconvenient. I drive a tiny car but I still have an SUV for family use. I also eat local beef but I don't know about the antibiotic free or any of that. That would probably make them more expensive. I don't know if it's environmentally safe, but I try to make everything homemade instead of out of boxes.

  • I am in a funk today, and hoping I can snap out of it. I was in such a great mood yesterday and today I feel like I woke up on the wrong side of the bed.  Becoming increasingly worried about the day the baby comes for many reason.. Logically I know everything will be fine and that I will adapt; however I am afraid of the unknown and just stressed out today.  Blaming it on the damn hormones.  And my mom told me last night my face is getting chubby, so another reminder how FAT I am getting. whatever.

I would say on the environmental scale I am about a 5 or 6. I recycle at home and try to at work as well. I drive a fuel efficient car and try to save on driving around when I can.  But I am sure there is still much room for improvement....

  • Rant: There are so many random threads that really should be put in the daily check-in. End rant.

It was really helpful to learn what position baby girl was in yesterday at my checkup. I like having an idea of where she's at and if i'm feeling kicks or punches. Her head is down right now and she just moves her bottom to either side of my stomach. I like when the bump and thumps make sense.

I went on a walk/jog yesterday and today and even though my pace is SO SLOW, I am still glad to get out there. Anyone else use MapMyRun? Would it be too personal if we added each other?

Environmental-- I don't know how to rate myself. We live in a LEED Silver certified house. I have a small garden but keeping it hydrated in the desert doesn't seem that eco-friendly most days. We recycle in all the ways you can here (only paper, plastic and metal. NO glass! Agh!) We share one car and don't keep the A/C cranked too low. I compost and we bring our bags to the grocery store. We buy as much organic as is available around here. This place is desert in more ways than one. But really, these measures all feel like small potatoes. I know I could be doing more.

@MrsTinMKE Why would your mom say that? I don't get why everyone sees pregnancy as a time to be brutally honest about a pregnant woman's body. I'm sure your face is perfect.

@archi35 Maybe your little guy is more of an explorer/adventurer than a terror. :)

  • Feeling ok today. Got a prenatal massage which I highly recommend to all!!

I'd say I'm about a 5 on the eco-scale. Our recycle bin is always more full than the trash. I have a decent size veggie garden in the backyard (although maintaining it this year is tough!!). We definitely lose points on the vehicles though- DHs F150 is a gas-guzzler! My Rav4 isn't so bad but it's definitely no Prius!

@archi35‌ OMG the alien escaping is just how I described my same experience to people. Totally freaky.
