Thanks, girls!! Sorry, I always thought NBR meant "No big read" lol Duh. Anyway, yes, it was for baby! They had a hard time measuring because it is so early, which I knew. Based on LMP i'd be in my ninth week, but based on O I am in my 6th. When they finally did get a measurement it showed about 5 weeks, but she said it is not very accurate when it's that small, so she is not changing my due date yet, but I will have another u/s in 4 weeks that will be more accurate for dating. But most importantly, we did see the heartbeat!! They gave me a pic, but it's so blurry and small and hard to make anything out, but I am just happy for the HB and another peek in a few weeks! This practice apparently also loves giving U/S's cause after the A/S at week 20, from there on out we will get a peek every 4 weeks until baby comes!
I'm honestly not sure why they do so many. Especially since I'm not high risk or anything. The practice has changed a little since DD and she was going over the papers with me and said after 20 weeks we'll take a peek every for weeks to check on baby's growth. That was a surprise, but I am not going to argue about getting extra glimpses of my baby.
Are they heavy-handed on other interventions, too? It's not just getting to see the baby...you don't want them fishing for problems & frequent ultrasounds don't improve (low-risk) pregnancy outcomes. Tread carefully.
That's true. I did think about the insurance, but not really other aspects. The Dr did the U/S and then left her student to go over the paperwork with me, and that's when she mentioned them, so maybe she was mistaken about it. I will ask at my next appointment.
Was it an US with the big machine or with one of those wheeling portable ones? I think that makes a big difference payment wise. I am military so it's a very different system, but I got the impression that if one of the little portable wand ones is available they'll show you at your appointments if you want, but we only do 1 with the big fancy machine in radiology, assuming all is well.
This one was and the next one for dating will def be the portable one. After that, the 20w will be the big machine. She didn't say which it would be, but I just assumed it would be a regular U/S. Idk. I will ask at my next appointment, cause as much as I would love to peek at my baby as much as I can, now I am really questioning why there would be so many.
