Vitamins for picky eater?

Within the last month or 2, Ben has become more and more picky. Yesterday all he ate was the bread off his sandwich for lunch and probably a bite of breakfast and dinner. He didn't touch his breakfast this morning. We offer him full balanced meals & lately he isn't interested, which I know is very normal for his age and he will eat when he is hungry. But should I be giving him vitamins to supplement the lack of food based vitamins?

Re: Vitamins for picky eater?

  • Thanks! Ben's 18 min appointment is on Monday. I will ask then. I just wasn't sure if it was unheard of at this age. And yes @katrine_05 he was a preemie.

  • I have been thinking about this.  M was 2 months early but I had no idea preemies were supposed to have vitamins except when much younger.  We didn't discuss this at her 18 mo appt, probably because she is taller and heavier than the average 18 mo old.  I have been buying insanely pricey toddler box nutrient drinks that she likes and that have some vitamins and she has one every few days and she eats Cheerios, which have a lot of added nutrients.  She's a good meat eater, daily consumer, and a good fruit eater, but rejects all veggies.  I am not going to do anything else until she's 2...just will keep offering things.

What kind of drink do you give? Like pediasure? I have been thinking of giving him these every once in a while

  • We get these red boxes called Enfagrow Next Step.  I have not compared them to the Pediasure.  I am ashamed to say that I got the idea when I saw Anna(?) Duggar toss them into a bag on the show and thought, "that looks so easy."  Plus, I thought M would like the straw element of them, although she is pretty lukewarm about it.

Haha I love the duggars too! I just think they might be a good idea on days where I can't get him to eat ANYTHING. I will look into them thanks :)

  • Pediasure is good my pediatrician recommended it at her 15 month appt. They have all different flavors, we got chocolate and my little lady wouldn't even drink it.. I heard the banana flavor is a big hit.

  • We still do Vitamin D drops, and I just started vitamins with him last week on my pediatrician's recommendation--found some Flinstones Gummies for toddlers at Target.
