Away from LO all day when EBF

Next weekend, I have an all day bachelorette party to go to. I will be away from ds for about 12 hours. I am trying to figure out when to pump, and what to do with the milk after. I have an electric pump but it's kind of big to bring around with me at night. I have a hand pump that I was considering putting in my purse
to use instead. Not sure what to do with the milk after as we will be out. I thought I could keep a cooler in my car and keep what I pump while I am near my car at the begging of the day. I am thinking I might need to dump what I use while out and away from my car? We won't be drinking (bride does not drink) so I don't have to worry about that. Any thoughts and Ideas would be appreciated!

  • LO will be 8 weeks next weekend. I have been pumping since about 3 weeks.

  • If I was in your shoes, I'd skip part of the day... That's a long time to be away from an 8 week old and figuring out pumping every 3ish hrs could be a real pain. GL with your decision.

  • I was recently a bridesmaid at a wedding and we were pretty much on duty all day. Another bridesmaid and I were both bfing and pumped every 3 hours, first privately in the hotel suite. But then we did it under nursing covers in the church bathroom and then in the bathroom at the reception hall standing by the sinks since there was no brides room. I brought along my big lunch bag and lined it with a 2 gallon ziplock bag and filled it with ice. I kept the milk and pump parts in an extra ziplock bag in there so I didn't have to wash anything. We were all embarrassed to pump in the bathrooms but tons of moms and old ladies came in and shared pumping stories with us or exclaimed that they were amazed how pumps have advanced since they had their kids. It wasn't as awful as I thought it would be. But our babies were 4-5 months, not 8 weeks. But it's doable.

  • I went to SixFlags all day and pumped with electric on batteries in the bathroom and then just outside with a cover on. Kept the pump parts and milk in a cooler (PackIt). It was room temp at the end of the day. You could bring baggies and ask for a cup of ice at restaurants etc. if you'll be out longer than the ice pack holds out and go refresh the ice to keep it cold.

  • All great advice. You don't need to skip out on a day out just because your bfing. Go and have fun. It'll work out.
