Too Much Sleep?

OK so I know I am lucky that my LO sleeps through the night (knock on wood). This has been going on since she was 6 weeks old. She is now 3 months. However, she seems to be tired all day. Our schedule has been her sleeping from 8-7, napping 8:30-11, napping 12:30-3, then up most of the evening until she goes down again at 8. I am home with her all day still and this just seems like A LOT of sleep. Is it possible for her to sleep too much? I feel like this is a stupid question but it just seems odd that she is still sleeping this much during the day at 3 months. I know I should be happy she is sleeping this much but I am a FTM and I just feel like there is always something to worry about. Are any other 3 month babies sleeping this much? TIA!

  • You're lucky. Mine only takes little 15-30 minute car naps throughout the day. It's kind of annoying.
  • You are lucky, and just enjoy it! My LO is 3 months today, she usually sleeps really well at night, but daytime naps are shitty. 45 minutes is the longest and it doesn't matter if she's next to me, on me, in a crib, in the ergo, in my arms...she's up within 45 minutes.

Loved it because I'm right there with you!

    Yup. This exactly.

Once in a blue moon I'll get a couple hours in the mid-afternoon, but honestly I can't remember the last time that happened. She averages about 25 minutes usually - and even that requires going in and soothing once (or twice like this morning!).

She sleeps great at night so I can't complain too much, but I think I'm more worn out than her at the end of the day.

Yes. Once all 4 kids are in bed, I'm right behind them. So exhausted by the end of the day! Emma did not get the memo that newborns are supposed to be sleepy.

  • As PP have said, this sounds normal. I'm convinced that my LO has an internal timer set so that his daytime naps don't exceed 30 minutes. Today, he napped for an hour and I almost cried tears of joy. My mom says that as a baby I slept 20 hours a day all the way up until 6 months when I suddenly woke up. Now that sounds a little excessive to me, but there really is no one "normal" when it comes to babies.

As much as it sucks, I'm glad I'm not the only one. I keep thinking I'm doing something wrong!
  • You described my lo to a tee! I was worried too, also a FTM.
