Newbie Intro

Hi everyone! I am new to the message board thing, but not new to TTC...hubby and I have been trying for 8 months after finding out I have been diagnosed with annovulation. I don't ovulate. Like, ever.

First course of treatment was Clomid 50 mg (to no avail) after period induction with Provera. Next cycle, Provera again and Clomid 100 mg. Nothing. Then Clomid 150 mg last week. Nothing. Had bloodwork done 2 days later, nurse said it looked like I was starting to surge (awesome! Ready to BD!) then bloodwork the following day (yesterday) said no surge and in fact, my levels were decreasing. How depressing. So now, Clomid 200 mg starting today. This is the last month I can do Clomid before doc will want to try another med and/or injectables. Yikes! I can't imagine having to stab myself, let alone letting hubby do it! So, fingers crossed.

I am hoping this will be a place I can provide support to you all, as well as seeking support when I need it. Yesterday was a really rough day after getting the news that in fact, again, I did not ovulate. I don't have many people in my life that I can turn to for this, as most just don't understand the pain and struggle. Most people I know have gotten pregnant without planning it or even necessarily trying.

Yup, HSG was normal. No ultrasound monitoring, just OPKs and bloodwork. Thanks everyone for the warm welcome!!

I've gotta be the one to say this....unmonitored use of clomid is incredibly dangerous. And unmonitored at 200mg is outrageously dangerous.

I take this dosage, too but I am monitored CD3 to ensure I had no leftover follies, then starting again CD10 to check for my response and to measure my uterine lining. Clomid is notorious for thinning your lining which could make implantation and a healthy pregnancy impossible. There's also a huge risk for over stimulating which can do lasting damage to your ovaries and put you at a high risk of HOM. I'm not trying to scare you but the dr you're working with (I'm assuming an OB) is putting you at a huge risk. I STRONGLY urge you to seek out a reproductive endocrinologist (RE) they specialize in infertility. An RE will get you pregnant and then an OB keep your pregnant and get you your baby.

Sorry if this seems harsh...I've just heard one too many horror stories and clomid 200mg is serious medicine.

My Dr actually is a Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility specialist, lead doc at the facility. I imagine he knows what he is doing, including the appropriate protocol for prescribing me Clomid. It all depends on one's history, age, diagnosis, etc. But thanks!

Please get monitoring with fertility drugs. There is so much that can (and fairly often does) go wrong.

Welcome! Sorry you find yourself here. I hope they get you O'ing soon!

I must say though...on the boards here 1/2 a year, and never saw an RE use Clomid without ultrasound monitoring. How would you know if you had too many follies? Estrogen levels only give a general picture but there's a range. I would also wonder if getting a picture of how your body responds to Clomid could help with treatment choices.

Welcome! And I'm sorry you have to be here. I definitely second what the other PP have said. I have an HMO, so getting everything is a fight. CA mandates insurance companies to have some type of fertility coverage, so my HMO tries to give me the basic, but I usually demand the premium treatment. My RE said I didn't need a mid-cycle u/s (they do provide the CD3 u/s and one before IUI) but last month when I kept emailing her and called member services she gave in, as soon as she started the u/s she said, "Oh my, you were right you did need an ultrasound." I didn't overstimulate, but at CD 12, I had 6 very promising follicles. Thank goodness by the IUI 4 days later 2 had dropped out. I never would have known this with just taking opks. I trust my doctor to a certain extent, but I do realize that this is my body. Good luck!

For all those who are talking about monitoring on Clomid, is that just for IUI? Right now we are doing JUST Clomid before anything more invasive. Thanks!

Welcome! Like @bunnyberry said I have never heard of an RE not monitoring while you're on clomid. Blood work is only half the picture, the ultrasound is the other half. My RE always says she needs both to give her the whole story. When we are talking about being monitored, it's ANY time you're on clomid, femara, injects etc. whether it's TI (timed intercourse) or IUI. I'm glad you are working with a doctor your trust but YOU are always your best advocate and educating yourself it so important. Good luck with your cycle and I hope your stay here is short and sweet!

Thanks everyone! I called my doc today and asked why I am not being monitored. He said he gets the big picture from the bloodwork and is saving me the expense of unnecessary ultrasound bills. I am going to see what Monday's blood work looks like, to determine if I will request an ultrasound on Tuesday. Thanks for your help!
