Trouble TTC

Seems unreal (bfp mentioned)

This morning I took a pregnancy test, on a whim, because I am leaving for a 4 day trip to Texas to visit my best friend.  I am only 10dpo and kept telling myself it would say negative, but low and behold, it was a BFP!  I was honestly shocked and stared at it for like 10 minutes before calling my husband at work.  I have to go in to get blood work with my RE tomorrow and again on Monday to be sure its the real deal (god I hope it is), but the whole thing seems unreal to me!  I went to an appointment this morning, then promptly stopped at walmart to buy different brands of preganancy tests and took 3 more when I got home.  They all have very faint positive lines too.  I can't tell anyone yet, until I know its for sure, but OMG!!!!!!!

Re: Seems unreal (bfp mentioned)

  • Congrats! I hope your appointments go well.

I would suggest asking the part about waiting to tell on a board with women who are all pregnant; maybe a birth month board or one of the -trimester boards? I can only say hypothetically what I would do; many here haven't ever been pregnant.

I'm sorry if I offended you, but some people on here have had children before, and my husband and I had the conversation about when to tell people long before now.

Congrats... but really? Most of us have never been pregnant.... and those of us who have haven't stayed pregnant long enough to share our good news.

    Know your audience
First, CONGRATS!!! fingers crossed x a million that your appointments go well and that you weren't just hallucinating ;) also sending good juju that you have a happy healthy pregnancy!
I caught your unedited post in this comment and don't think there is anything wrong with you asking here (as well as another board that might be able to help you better like Like you said, there are quite a few people who have been pregnant before whether it went full term or not who could offer insight about letting the secret out. My only experience with a "postive" is an extremely early miscarriage so we didn't even have time to tell anyone but, like you, have discussed with my husband what we would do even far prior to having IF issues. I completely understand how difficult it is to think about waiting that long to share such exciting news..idk if i'll be able to stop myself from shouting it from the rooftops lol, especially after going through what we are now. I think it's a very personal decision so I won't give 'advice' but what we have decided is that we will tell our extremely close friends who have been in the know about everything (once confirmed by dr.) & then wait the 3mos to tell families and facebookland etc. Having been through if struggles with friends and now ourselves, I have already planned to announce once online & then start a blog or page for people to check if they want to see updates. That way I'm free to post as much, or little, about the pregnancy without throwing it in peoples faces.
Hope that helps & good luck with everything!

  • CONGRATULATIONS!!!  I can only imagine the extreme joy you must have from your first ever BFP.  I've never had one before and assume I will completely meltdown when I finally do.  FX for you.

DH and I decided to wait the three months because we made the mistake of telling everyone when we started TTC and now we get way too many questions about our issues.  In the (hopefully low chance) event that our first BFP turns into an early mc, we don't want to have to go through the same pain of having to tell everyone about a loss.

  • Congrats! Have fun with your BMB and tri boards over the next few months! Pro tip: there's almost always several posts about how to tell people and how long to wait on the BMBs. It's a hot topic over there. You can even check out BMBs that are just past the 3 month mark to see what other people did (yay for lurking). I've definitely lurked on BMBs before HA! H&H 9 months!

  • Congrats!

We had decided to wait with most people until 3 months...but that was before we were pretty out and open about all of our treatments.  Now people know what months we are having something done, so they would know within a few weeks that we would already have an answer.  But they at least don't know enough to know the exact day of beta or anything.  If you did TI and not everyone knows your history, then I'd try to keep it to ourselves for a bit.

As far as telling people goes, I would tell close friends and family right away. Mostly because they know about our treatments and would ask anyway. I wouldn't tell other friends or people I work with until the 3 month mark. Everyone is different and it's a personal decision.

I feel (hypothetically, having never been in that position) that I want to keep it to myself for quite a while. I plan to enjoy the news by myself for a while before telling DH, and then telling immediate family and grandmas one at a time in special ways. I kind of feel like the announcement at church and work (which I guess will be 3 months) will be kind of a letdown in a way. Of course I say all this now, but who knows!

Huge congrats!  I'm so happy for you and hope you have a fantastic pregnancy.  I, for one, am glad you shared with us.  I have unexplained infertility and am childless, but I can still be happy for the success of others.  In fact, when other people struggling with these issues are successful, it makes me more hopeful.
