Squee! Last night we received our doppler and it is FANTASTIC! In no time flat we heard the little heartbeat (11w5d), and were able to go through all the settings. It feels like such a relief to me to hear that, and DW expressed huge relief that the little baby is still in there.
It was very easy to distinguish baby's heartbeat from DW's, both by the numbers (120-150 vs below 80), and by the fantastic clear "galloping horse" nature. Well, maybe a pony.
For the two of us in the "middle lands" of infertility, where you are are "done" with trying to get pregnant, but don't yet have a baby, having a way to confirm the heartbeat is a huge relief. So nice to be able to hear that. And yes, we know that a doppler can cause all kinds of (potentially needless) angst if you CAN'T find the heartbeat. And if that happens, we will go directly to the emergency room. I think we worry either way. With this, we will be made a little more calm in the times between appointments when there is really nothing we can do anyway. And if we are alarmists and are sent home from the ER, great!
We just didn't feel this way with baby W. I recall worrying, but it was certainly different.
Also funny, last night before we used the doppler, we had Thai food brought home by my DW. It is a place right near her work and a real treat for me. We ate joyously and pretty much gluttonously. Afterwards, my DW said, "Yes, I have a Thai food baby. It's snuggled up right here next to my real baby." Then she told me not to press on her to hard with the doppler wand.

Edit to add: I took the brand out because I sound like a crazy salesperson. I'm not. I swear to you.

Re: Doppler Love
But lemme tell ya, after a loss, that thing has been a godsend this pregnancy. Even now, I feel her move all the time, but if she gets quiet, I do a quick h/b check...it only happens like once a week or so but it is total peace of mind! Plus, for J, as the non-pregnant partner, it made the baby real to her before I was showing or she could feel her move.
p.s. Just picked up Thai food for lunch. I would die without Thai food in my life. YUM.
Me (43) and J (45) - same sex couple. And we don't feel 40+!
