Spit up :(

Hey ladies. So my Zac is 11 wks old and just yesterday started spitting up. He is breast fed and in his 11 wks of life, he has only spit up like 5 times total. Until yesterday - when he did it like 8 times before it was even noon. Now, at 4:30 am, he just did it again so looks like another day... Is this normal for it to just start all of a sudden? Any thoughts on if this is a phase linked w growth spurt and he'll stop? He's not eating more than usual or in a different positions than he always has... Has anyone else noticed this happen with their LO?

Re: Spit up :(

  • My ds has always been a spitter, but he definitely has days where he boofs more than others. Could be something you ate yesterday. Id say as long as its just spit up and not vomit that it's ok. You could always call your doc or nurse line and ask.

  • My son is 3 months and is bf and rarely spits up also. There are certain days though where he seems to do it a lot. I don't really have an explanation but it does seem to be normal for babies to have phases of spitting up!
  • My LO is EBF and he spits up very rarely, but when he does spit up, it's multiple times a day. Spitting up is at its peak during 2-4 months because they start producing more saliva and they aren't used to swallowing it so they tend to spit up more. Also, I've noticed that my LO spits up a lot after I've eaten garlic. Your LO might have an intolerance to something you've had to eat or drink. As long as he isn't uncomfortable, you can probably relax.

  • Thanks for the replies. I'll see what happens. I makes me feel bad for mothers who's babies spit up a lot. It seems to have died down today so it probably was something I ate the other day. I'll have to try to remember what I had on Monday. Geez.
