GD Mamas - Canada

Unfortunately, I think my question can only be answered by Canadian mothers, since the glucose levels are calculated differently in Canada and the United States.

I had a horrible appointment with a nutritionist yesterday. My usual nutritionist was on vacation and I was seen by her replacement. This woman freaked at my fasting levels, saying I needed insulin right this moment and that I shouldn't have waited this long. I managed to negociate a week to bring my levels down, since my usual nutritionist has no issue with them. I'm usually at 5,3 or 5,4 mmol/L in the morning, and we're aiming for less than 5,3. My numbers during the day are all very good, and those were also my fasting levels at my first pregnancy, and we never mentioned insulin. I know I'm busting slightly, but so slightly that I don't think it warrants insulin.

For those of you who were put on insulin for your fasting levels, how high were you?

I think this might help you convert some of the US measurements you've been hearing about? Someone posted it in another group I'm in for GD.

Also, we have a GD check in that some of the ladies post regularly to if you have any other questions!

  • My dietician makes recommandations about medications, usually. However, since my usual dietician is fine with those numbers and that my first GD baby was born at 39 weeks, at 7 lbs 8 oz and no blood sugar issues after delivery, I think I'll ask to talk to my doctor before agreeing to insulin. I might feel differently if all my numbers were borderline, but all my other numbers are well below target most of the time.

    Thanks for answering!
