NBR: Microwaves

After an incident with the microwave, DS, and my arm this evening I am now in the market for a new microwave. So, here's the thing, where is the best place to purchase one and what is the best one out there? DH and I were discussing and we both aren't sure. I figured I could get something at Target, but is that the best place, or as good as any other I could get one? And what is the best brand to get? I'm going to do some research this evening, but figured I'd put it out in the board to see if anyone had any recommendations. TIA!

We got ours at HHGregg and if you have one of those stores in your area I recommend it because you can do 12-24 month financing for 0% interest, if you want. :) Anyway we got a Samsung microwave and I love it! Its a wall mounted one above the stove and is great because it does all the microwave-y stuff but also has a fan & light for when I need them cooking on the stovetop :)

We got a cheapie one at Target 4 years ago and it still works really well

    02.2013 - loss at 6 wks

    06.2014 - DS2

    10.2015 - loss at 12 wks

    03.2017 - DD

  • When we bought one last year, DH had me look at the wattage b/c it helps determine the cooking time. I think he wanted one with a minimum of 1000 watts, but I could be wrong.

  • We got one at Best Buy when our last one died, and it's been terrific.  I second the previous poster about checking on the wattage, but I'd also make sure that it fits your dinner plates.  My ex had purchased a small microwave that wouldn't fit our dinner plates (which weren't overly large) and it sucked.

  • I'm pretty sure ours came from Walmart or Target. Something basic that warms up food just fine!

Are you getting an over range one?
We have a Frigidaire that is great. I love that it has a fan for stovetop cooking & a light.
Edit: forgot to say we got it at Lowes :)
  • Ours is Kenmore and it was from Sears. It's really nice. We had to buy it when we moved into our house 2 yrs ago. We'll be leaving it tho for our new home owners when we move.
  • I went and checked after posting last night- ours from Best Buy is a Panasonic with "Inverter technology" which I honestly thought was a load of BS- until it consistently and quickly defrosted any frozen meat I put into it without ever making it rubbery or weird-tasting.  That's what was so terrific about it, figured I should include that part! :-)
