My mother thinks I am crazy for stocking up on diapers, but I want to be prepared for when our twin girls arrived. How many diapers do you think you went through each week?! Is it crazy to guesstimate it at 100+ a week for twins?
NOPE! Not unrealistic at all! Especially for size 1 diapers. I would suggest getting a couple packs of preemies and a few packs of newborns but really stocking up on size one! Most places (IE Wal-mart, Target and babies are us) will let you exchange for different sizes with the receipt or through a gift registry!!

NBs go through about 10-12 diapers a day. It soon goes down to 8-10 or fewer, and they grow quickly, so while they go through a lot of diapers at first, I wouldn't stock up too much in one size.
ETA: agree with PP, size 1 seems to last a while, but not preemie or NB.

Unless you have a specific reason to think you'll be early, you may want to skip the preemie and plan to have someone run out for them if you need them. If you look through the new baby posts, lots of babies go home rocking the newborn already.
I did the same thing when I was PG and didn't buy diapers until they were 13 months old! I purchased generic (Target and Costco) because I had used them with DD1 and knew I liked them. I did have a few packages that were too small because they grew so fast and both Target and Costco let me exchange them.
ETA: Also, buy wipes, they don't dry out or go bad.
We started stocking up well ahead of time. Like others have said mostly just size 1s. We bought enough newborns to get through and we go out for more when necessary. They are almost out of them at 3.5 weeks. They were born at 38w3d, so they've always been on the bigger side anyway.
I haven't counted how many diapers we use daily, but I'd guess 20-25? It's a lot!
I agree, don't bother with preemie size ahead of time. Anticipate at least 10-12 diapers per baby for the first weeks.
Stocking up can be very helpful, but keep in mind there's a chance certain diaper brands might not "work" well for your babies...sensitive skin issues, leaking, general fit, etc. That's the one caution I'd give for stocking up.

When my twins were newborns, we went through approximately 20 diapers a day. It gets better after they quit pooping every time they eat. At first we were going through a case a week. By about two months it was a case every 2-3 weeks.
I'd be careful of stocking up, though I seem to be in the minority.
All my kiddos have sensitive skin and we only can use pampers baby dry and wet paper towels for wipes. Had I stoked up beforehand, I'd have wasted a lot of money.
We have been doing 12ish diapers per day. X3 babies is almost 40 diapers and 20 month old uses about 10 as well. 45-50 diapers per day in this house.

Lots haha. Mine we peanuts. Born at 2lbs9oz and 3lbs7oz and came home at 4 and 5 lbs. They were in preemie for a week or so. Newborn for at least 3-4 boxes worth and size 1 for what seemed like forever. Mine are now 21 months old and still b in size 3 during the day (size 4 at night). It starts out a lot, we wer at least somewhere around 15-16 a day.
10 per baby per day while newborns. Now we're 21 months old and going through about 280 diapers a month. Ouch! Cloth diaper mommies are awesome people!
Stocking up really does help. Worrying if you have enough diapers is the last thing you want to think about. We had about 5 boxes of newborns before they arrived. My babies were pretty small when they were born. They both were in preemies for about 2 weeks when they were in the NICU. My daughter is pretty small still compared to my son so she just switched to size 1 when she was about 3-4 months old. Having a box of size 1 would be a good idea just in case one grows a little faster than the other.

Also FYI if you buy at BRU and have a rewards card (and use it) you don't have to have the receipts when you return. They can see everything you bought under the rewards card. We've typically found te best sales there, and buy more than we need and just exchange for the next size up.
It depends on if you bf. I did try to bf for the first 12 weeks, ended up getting 3/4 formula. Went through about 16-20 diapers per day, per baby. Did use preemie size and newborns, had lots of 1s and 2s. My son is now in 2s and my daughter is in 1s, at just over 3 months. I'm 14 weeks in and haven't had to buy diapers or wipes thanks to stocking up during sales while pregnant (except the preemie diapers). I exchanged the leftover newborn diapers at Walmart and BRU for another size. Still have several cases of each, including a bunch of huge huggies naturals I got for $10 a piece at BRU when they changed the packaging. Right place, right time! I say go for it - I love seeing that diaper closet full! Also don't forget to stock up on tons of burp cloths! I mean tons!!
