So mad at Graco

     Two months ago we bought our Graco Crib. I have been waiting to put this thing together forever!! Since we are moving it didn't make since to put it together until we had the keys to our new place. We started moving this weekend and so I started to work on the crib. I had to stop at step one. The pre-drilled hole on one piece doesn't line up with the other piece. That was frustrating, but not the end of the world.

     Yesterday I called the manufacture and becuase I didn't have all the information she was asking for she told me she couldn't help me. There was no way to look it up. So today I called back. She didn't even need all the info she asked for yesterday. She told me they were discontinuing all their furnture and to return it to the store.

     I called Graco customer service. She said the manufacturer is going out of business and to return the crib! That's your solution?? I'm not buying another one from you!! Ok things get discontinued and places go out of business all time, but how can they sale me a broken product TWO months ago and not have any way of correcting this?? Why were they allowed to sale me something two months ago if they couldn't ensure quality or customer service?? Why would Graco not try to find some better way to handle this?

Maybe I'm overreacting, but at 36 weeks 3 days pg this feels like a very big deal!

    I don't want to scare anyone. Graco isn't going out of business. The manufacturer of the crib (LaJobi) is going out of business. They had a license to sale things under the Graco name. Which I didn't know.
  • It might not be the company that is going out of business, it might just be that particular factory that was making that model. I work for a heater company and we import our products from overseas and use several different factories. We recently had some issues with one of our factories and now none of the models or the parts for those heaters are available anymore. It sucks because retailers still have these models on the shelves but won't be able to replace them if something is wrong and we won't be able to send parts or replacements to the customers either. .

    LaJobi has had a lot of issues lately, it seems. We inherited a Graco glider from a family member and while it's in decent shape, we were looking to replacing the cushions as they are stained. Nope. Recalled glider. Can't get anything replaced even though a few years ago, they had replacement parts for the recall.
  • I was going to ask if maybe you put the piece on backwards and that is why it not lining up properly. I just finished putting together a crib this afternoon. Could not get the holes to line up, was about to throw in the towel before I had a duh moment.

    But since this manufacturer seems to be notorious for having problems, I will take your word for it.

    Return the thing. How frustrating.

  • Cribs are on sale this week at Target, plus there is an extra $20 off a $100 purchased coupon. Be glad you found out now when you can still return it. It could have broken 6 months ago and then you would have received no support. As annoying as it is to have happen at all, at least this is all before the baby is here.

    I think the problem is they are going out of business, but thank you for pointing out the mistakes I made while upset. I'll try to not let it happen again.
