Being paid to be a caretaker

I haven't posted in months. My daughter was born at 30wks 3 days. She spent 8 weeks in the NICU. She is now 9 months 7 adjusted. Just had a swallow study done 2 weeks ago because she seemed to struggle with her bottle. She completely failed it. She now has an NG tube but they are going to place a G tube. I can't believe the difference it has made! She is growing so much and interested in everything! Before all she did was eat and sleep. She has many health problems and it has become clear that I either need to quit my job or my husband and I need an in house caretaker for her. The state we live in does pay parents to be caretakers. I'm interested in this but know nothing about it. Anyone have experience with this? What did you have to do to qualify? Thanks in advance!

I used to work for senior services, I can tell you how that works for Illinois. I would assume it would be similar, but I could be wrong.

For seniors, the client gets referred to senior services from a doctor, hospital, family, friend or whoever. We did an intake form and made an appointment for a home visit to evaluate the level of need (which translates to how many hours you'd get paid for). Paperwork goes through and service starts.

If there's someone specific they want to care for them they would mention during the intake they want a preferred worker. The preferred worker would have to go to one of the agencies used to staff regular caregivers and tell them they want to be whoever's preferred worker. From there they have to go through training and the hiring process before they could get paid for worker the amount of hours determined during the home visit.

Again, I could be wrong on how it works for kids or in your state but hopefully that gives you some idea on what the process might be like. Talk to the pediatrician they may have more information or resources.

Good luck and I hope things work out for you!
