I'm not pregnant yet but curious as to when any of you (if you have had children or are pregnant) told your boss or co workers that you were pregnant. Thank you.

I told my boss late during 1st tri because I had a bleeding scare and had to take 3 days off. The rest of my co-workers I didn't tell until after I was 20 weeks along because I am a private person at work

I had the same job since I started TTC and I always told them pretty immediately because I always had restrictions and wouldn't be able to do a lot of my job duties safely.

I feel the same. They don't need to know right away.. & I suppose I'll need to wait to see how my pregnancy is. Being a chef i don't want to keep running to the bathroom if the smells get to me. That's just what co workers (past ones) have said was the worst part

I told when I was about 8 weeks. I didn't plan on staying after the baby so I wanted to let my boss know. It's hard to get good infant teachers so I wanted her to have time to find my replacement.

I waited until 14 weeks for first and 12 weeks for second. I know you think everyone can tell or they are wondering why you are peeing so much, but they're not. Both times I thought it was so obvious, but everyone was surprised. No need to tell your boss any earlier than first tri.

With DD I told my manager at work pretty early on (I was a server & did a lot of heavy lifting. Wanted to avoid it when possible.) In my new position I told my boss when I had to leave work because of bleeding and then told him I'd miscarried because he asked a few days later if everything was okay. I never told him about my next pregnancy, but planned to after my 12 week ultrasound. Unfortunately we discovered a MMC instead, so when I was out for my D&C I just said I was out for a minor surgery. Next time around I'll probably wait til 16-ish weeks or when it becomes obvious, whichever is first.

2nd trimester, around 14 or 15 weeks.

I'd tell my bosses probably as soon as possible, maybe a week or so after finding out. Being pregnant will definitely put limitations on how much work I do. Massage therapist + pregnant = possible puking on clients

I wasn't planning on telling until I hit 2nd tri but I ended up with Hypermesis and was so very sick at work I had to spill the beans around 9 weeks.

@dani_brewer‌ : I was thinking my DH and I should do this too (not pregnant yet, just a super planner) but it seems hard to keep silent about something that would be so exciting/scary! Did you both have a hard time?

P.S. My DH probably couldn't keep a secret to save his life anyways. He almost always ends up telling me my presents before he can give them to me.

I would like to wait until at least after the first trimester. I'm a teacher so the school will need some time to find a long-term sub, but usually they don't even start that until only a couple months ahead because if they hire someone too early that person might find another job anyway. We will probably tell family right away though; we are so anxious to just get pregnant I don't think we'll be able to stay quiet too long!

@catlover790‌ I can see why you'd have to tell early. You're being responsible. That's wonderful. That's also why I asked this question in TTC cause I knew others were like me in thinking about there career and caring. We will be so excited when we become pregnant. It will be hard to keep secret but we will try to keep quiet hehe

With my daughter Ibhad to let my boss know earlier than I wanted because I had a few issues that had to be checked weekly. I told my co-workers at 13+ weeks. I actually only mentioned it to a few people I was closer to and word got around. I didn't want to do a huge announcement.

I told my immediate family at about 8-9 weeks even though I knew basically immediately. (As soon as was possible)

With DD I told my boss when I was about 6 weeks along. I had planned to wait until I was at least 12 weeks but she "guessed"...I suspect she read it in my email.

Everyone else I told the moment I was 12 weeks along. I was really close with my department back then and was really excited to share my news.

This time around if/when it happens I think I'll wait until I'm at least 12 weeks again.

@etoille‌ having a crap boss is never fun glad you have moved on and sorry you didn't have a great time at that job.
The heads up is what my boss knows as well. Just still thinking I'll wait to tell til I'm ready. And give them time to find a temp chef while gone. I just like to be prepared for everything.

If i'm still in my current position i'd at least try to wait until the end of the first trimester, unless i'm running away from my cube to vomit every day, or gain too much weight to really hide it. I'm pretty private at work. But I know they'd hire a temp to cover me for maternity leave, and i'd like to give them time to hire one and get them into the office for me to train before i leave, so they need some time.

If i'm in a different position (i'm in interview mode for a different group at the same company) i'd probably hide it for longer...because first of all, the manager and most of the team for that position are in a different city, so they'd never notice, and second of all i'd feel really bad being like "thanks for hiring me, and i know i just started a week ago, but FYI in 9 months i'm going to need 3 months off." I'd like to make my mark there so that they know i'm a quality employee before i tell them i'm going to leave for an extended period of time.

My bigger concern at this point is when to tell my pilates instructor, because i know there will be limitations on what exercises i can do while pregnant, and i don't really want to tell anyone, including my family, until 8-12 weeks. I may tell my pilates instructor earlier than that though just to be safe.

I know I won't be able to climb on the counters and ladders to clean the vents by the grill and lifting heavy things it's just normal kitchen stuff that pregnant women shouldn't do. @gscoville‌

@delujm0‌ yes wanting to move up in a job or starting a new job makes it harder to decide when to tell. But you'll know the right time. & Pilates instructor will need to know for sure.

@Staceanng‌ i had to tell work basically as soon as I found out, because I work around a lot of radiation and bone cement that I cannot be around during pregnancy. It made it a little harder to deal with the loss because I then had to tell people that, too. Luckily it's still on a need to know basis so only my partner and charge nurse knew. If I worked a typical job, I wouldn't tell until 12-16 weeks

@anfranklin2‌ oh I'm sorry to hear about the loss. I always wondered about women with jobs like that and how they have to either do something else or take leave if absence. Having to tell earlier & possible loss is so sad. I'm sorry I never know what to say cause nothing I say will make it better. My friend just had a loss and is now 12 weeks and still nervous. I guess that she won't stop worrying until the baby is born. Which is understandable. Again sorry to hear that. ❤️ Sending love and prayers

I think its a somewhat good thing to think about before getting pregnant. You can't always time pregnancy but in my career, I'd prepare for a much more frustrated boss if I was going to give birth in the fall rather than any other time. It's our busy season then.

Naturally, if things turned out that way, I'd deal with it, but it's always good to think about.

I told my boss when I was 9 weeks because 1. I knew I was going to quit and not come back post maternity leave and I wanted to be a part of planning my successor 2. She is my good friend and I knew she would be happy for me.

I quit and I'm glad I did. I left the organization feeling good about my exit. And my friend was happy for me. Subsequently, when I want to work again, I know there will be a position for me. Honesty, I think, is the best, but when you tell them is up to you.

I will most likely have to tell my principal pretty quickly because it could take a LOONNGG time to find a sub who can take over my class. I teach band. It's not an easy position to fill.
