Sleep Regression

Not sure if we are going through a phase, sleep regression or something else all together!

DD is 8.5 weeks. From 4 weeks to just last week she slept really well. We would start her bedtime routine between 7pm-8pm and she would be asleep by 9ish. One 6 hour stretch (9pm-3/4pm) and then another 4-5 hour stretch. She would nurse for 10 minutes and be back to sleep within 25 minutes of us getting her. We definitely felt spoiled!

Since just before 8 weeks she has been waking up between 1am-2am and every 3 hours after that. She still nurses for about 10 minutes but she is just wide awake, smiling and staring around. It takes sometimes over an hour for her to fall back asleep.

We have not adjusted her nighttime routine but we have started putting her down earlier as she was starting to get extra fussy if she wasn't asleep by 8pm.

I read in wonder weeks this may happen around 8 weeks. Anyone else go through this?

Re: Sleep Regression

  • Yes! My LO is just over 9 weeks now, but was two weeks late (Wonder Weeks says to go by due date not DOB). She was super fussy between 630-830 and starting waking up in 3 hour gaps at night again. Last night was the first night with only one feed over night.

Are you keeping the lights off when you feed at night? And also, we noticed she was super hot in the middle of the night, could that also be the case with your LO?

Good luck, and the stages don't last forever, although they feel like they do.

  • @jgreig83‌ thanks for the reminder - I keep telling myself these phases will pass!

We keep the lights off, but hall light on, she just stares and smiles at pictures on the wall! Maybe time to go dark completely! I was also thinking about temperature. We keep it at 71 with fan on low to sleep and her body seems comfortable but hands are ice cold. She breaks out of every swaddle and blanket...it doesn't seem to bother her but it worries me! I'm going to continue to try with gloves!
  • You'll go through many wakeful periods over the next few years :)  Just roll with it.  And ditto on the no need for gloves - baby's tend to have colder hands and 71 is plenty warm.
