Bump fluctuation

I know pretty much every weird thing in pregnancy is also a normal thing, but does anyone else's bump sometimes seem to shrink? Early on, this happened a lot, and I figured the changes were just because of bloat. But is anyone getting bump size fluctuations at this stage? I swear mine looked bigger this weekend -- not by a lot, but enough to notice a slight difference yesterday and today.

Re: Bump fluctuation

  • This happens to me too. I think it is probably just positioning of the baby.

  • Yup, constantly.  Some days (like today) I'm full on pregnant looking.  Other days it just looks like fat.

  • Yep depending on where he is laying my bump doesn't look quite as big

  • In the morning my bump is pretty small, like a food baby. By the end of the day though, what with all the food and water I've consumed, I look full-on pregnant.

  • Mine is large and in charge. I have a good size bump that is there all the time but it is normally higher at night. It rides up during the day!
  • Yes, like everybody said. Clothing matters a lot, too. Some outfits really accentuate the belly.

I also have gastrophoresis where my stomach has delayed emptying and bloats every time I eat. I have GD and eating 5x a day has become a huge (no pun intended) problem for me.
  • Yep. And this morning as I was applying lotion, I noticed that if I lean back a bit, it makes my bump kind of pointy, and when I stand up straight, it's more round and flat. I amused myself for a couple of seconds with that realization.

This is diastasis recti basically where your tummy has separated for the baby. It should go away and why you need to work out slow after baby.
  • Mine looks huge some times and not so big at others. Some is what you wear, some is bloat, some is position, some is how backed up you or how much/recently you've eaten. I saw the diastasis recti and couldn't stop laughing either. It looks so damn weird!!

  • Thanks -- this all makes me feel less weird and more normal. My belly is smaller today and kicks are fewer, so naturally I started obsessing just a little.

I get the pointy belly lean-back thing, too. Mine gets pointy in the middle, fat on one side, and small on the other, like a lopsided hill. I try to show DH sometimes -- he watches for about five seconds then always sort of backs away and acts like he's all busy looking in the fridge or tying his shoes or whatever. I think it freaks him out.
