2 diaper bags for 2 kids?

I'm having our little girl next month and she has a big brother that's 2 and is still in diapers. My question is should I carry 2 different diaper bags (continue to carry his small one and now add her big one) or just put his stuff in her hot pink larger bag? All I carry for him now is his sippy cups, diapers, any entertainment (books, toys, crayons, etc.), wipes, change of clothes and snacks...and in the summer- sunblock and his sunglasses. Once she's here, she'll have everything in her bag. So what's other moms doing in this situation?

I wouldn't want 2 bags but that's just me.  I'd rather use 1 larger bag that works for everyone.

I would just use 1 bag - 2 bags sounds like torture! :)  I would also consolidate and narrow down what you bring so the 1 bag doesn't end up weighing 50 pounds.
Agreed.  I'd just carry what you actually use regularly in your bag and leave the rest in the car.  I never carry changes of clothes for the kids but I have some cheap outfits in the car along with extra diapers and wipes.  I only carry 2-3 diapers per kid now in my bag.

  • 1 bag is all you need.  A 2 year old doesn't require more than a few diapers and maybe a snack.

This. Invest in a good one with a nice layout.

  • am thinking though, if #1's bag is shoved in thar of #2, then if you or DH (or someone else) goes out with just #1, then his bag is pretty much already packed. I only have 1 though so no experience with coordinating 2 of my own kids.

  • I never thought of leaving his extra clothes in my car....thanks for the tips everyone!
  • I'm a fan of having an over packed baby in the car and only carrying what you absolutely need every day. For example my car bag has a change of clothing for everyone in our family, including myself and DH plus all the random items we might need (I go so far as having swim suits and towels for spontaneous beach trips). My diaper bag has 2 diapers per kid a wet bag, snacks and a water bottle for the toddler, a paci and nursing cover/blanket for the new born and wipes. I can fit it all in my mid sized purse.

  • Oh, one bag defenitetly!!! Last thing you need with two kids to handle is an extra bag!

When I had two under two is when I switched to a backpack for a diaper bag, so my hands were free.
  • Thanks everyone. I took some advice off here and packed a bag I left in my car with extra clothes, diapers, I tried leaving an extra thing of wet wipes in it but with this VA heat....they were getting dried out easily and quickly in the car. But I keep napkins and tissues in there, plastic shopping bags for any wet items, a towel, etc. And now my son wants to carry a backpack like Dora the Explorer...lol. So it makes it easy on me....cause he wants to wear it on his back! Its got a few toys in it, snacks, diapers, wet wipes and if needed, his sunblock! Its not too heavy for him. I even let him change out the toys every time we go somewhere..... He likes to help pack it! So this helps!
  • Definitely not.  I hate carrying one diaper bag.  It actually stays in car.  I carried it some when my littlest was in infant but not since.  I have a spare diaper and travel wipes in my purse.  That's it.
