Our doctor heard a heart murmur on my 11 month old son so we had an echo that shows that he has an aortic bicuspid and aortic valve stenosis. My doctor said it is not serious. Does anyone know anything about this?
DD has moderate pulmonary valve stenosis that was diagnosed at birth. She sees the cardiologist every 3-6 months for an echo and will most likely need a catheterization procedure when she is 3. It is a day surgery where they go in with a catheter and use a balloon to open the valve. Even if she needs the procedure it isn't something that will interfere with her daily life. There will be no restrictions on sports etc...If your son's case is mild he most likely won't even need the procedure and will just need yearly exams to make sure the pressure gradient isn't getting worse. Hearing anything is wrong with your LO especially something to do with the heart is scary but it should be a very manageable thing.
My DD has a bicuspid aortic valve. It is not an issue. They doctors said it could be an issue late in life. She will be monitored on a yearly basis. She also had open heart surgery at 8 days old to fix a VSD, an ASD, and a coarcation of the aorta. The biscupid valve was not a concern. I know that heart issues can be scary!
