  I agree to an extent, but I see it more with grandparents. For example MIL will make an entire new meal during Sunday lunch if one if her offspring says they don't like the food.

  I think I agree with everything in there, except part of number 3 - yes teachers etc. can be part of your village in disciplining or correcting your child, but a shop keeper? I don't think so. 

  
  

  With respect to the cup, there are definitely times where I tell DD too bad, it's already in the blue cup. She deals. I think it's an important lesson.

  My 2 cents on the technology part is that it is important to learn patience.  However, the world has evolved and even adults use technology to keep entertained during times when they should be patiently waiting.  It's not wrong or bad, the world is vastly different from how it was a generation ago.

  I do the cup thing. My son is learning. When he says "I want water in the pink monster cup" I am psyched. He's putting together sentences, naming colors, identifying that he feels thirsty, etc. I want to encourage him to continue to voice his thoughts. Whatever, lady.
