Breastfeeding

Weaning one year old question.

I've been breast feeding for almost 13 months. My lo has milk after he wakes up, after 2 naps and before bed. I want to slowly start to wean. My plan is to stop the feed after the second nap and replace with a calcium based snack. I'm just worried this isn't enough. Can anyone point me to the guidelines for how much breast milk etc? I'd like to avoid cow's milk etc.

Thanks and sorry of this had been asked before.

  • My LO is the same age. His Pedi said no more than 16-20oz of BM or WCM in a day. We have recently weaned down to one feed a day, all LO led. He just stopped asking girl the AM nursing yesterday. I would do 1/2 cup yogurt, some cheese and BM and it should be enough. GL

  • DD is also 13m, and won't drink ANY milk other than BM. I brought it up with the pedi, and she basically said not to worry about it, as long as she's making up for it with other sources of calcium in her diet (she eats plenty of cheese and yogurt), and free access to water. Plenty of cultures really don't drink cow's milk, it's just a convenient source of fat/calories.

That said, I'm still nursing a few times a day, so that has also made me less worried. Maybe take it slow on the weaning, and see what happens?
