Success after IF

Summer camp

DS1 is off to summer camp tomorrow. They have a mini camp version which is only 3 nights for younger children who are first timers. He is going with my BFF's son who is 14 mo older. The boys are super excited about it and we have been doing sleepovers recently to get them prepared. Fun!!

I never went to camp when I was a kid so I have zero first hand experience. My BFF did and her parents never sent a thing to her while she was gone. Everyday she waited for a letter and never got anything. Poor duck! :( I mailed a letter to him today, in the hopes of it getting there for his first or second day, and I'll send another letter tomorrow. Should I also send a care package? The camp has ready made ones that you can buy for $25. If you have been to summer camp, how important was getting (or not getting) a care package to you? Do you think it is worth it to buy one for only 3 nights away? Is it something that I could hold off on and get next year when he is there for a full week? Or should I get one this year to ease the transition into the camp experience? WDYT?

I went to camp when I was older. I got care packages when I called my mom and asked her to send me something I wanted from home. Mail is nice, but I don't think a care package is necessary for a three night stay. Do you know what is in it? That might sway my opinion.

  • No care package for 3 days. Mail is fine I wouldn't send to much as its a bit of an adjustment and you want them focused on camp.

I agree. The letters were super sweet and should suffice. I would wait until it's a full week for a care package.

It doesn't say specifically, but there is merchandise not available at the camp store. I did give him a $25 credit to spend at the camp store. They have snacks, shirts, etc. there.

  • Skip the care package for the 3 day camp.

My mom secretly wrote letters before we left for camp and dropped them in the mailbox in the town the camp. That way we got mail the first day.

Maybe make a care package for the ride home?
