Pregnant after a Loss

When to be concerned about lack of movement?

Oh poo, I really didn't want to be this person. I know you can't count on consistent movement until about 28 weeks, and I'm only 24, but I'm nervous anyways. My little guy has been pretty steadily active since about 20w. I usually feel him in the mornings after I drink my coffee, then later in the afternoon, and he's most active in the evenings and around bed time. Last night at bed time he was very active as usual, but this morning I haven't felt him at all. I feel like I'm being paranoid, but I'm just used to having felt him bubbling around a bit by this point in the day, but I haven't felt a thing yet, not even a hiccup. At what point can we be legitimately concerned and call the OB office? Or please just go ahead and tell me I'm being crazy... I think I'm feeling extra-sensitive and raw now that our big news is in the open.  :(

  • I agree to call your OB if you're nervous. Again, consistent movement isn't really something to expect just yet. You can try orange juice; which was my go to if I thought movement was low with my son.
  • I would try juice and lying down on your side for a bit before calling, but if that didn't get him moving, I would call for sure.

  • It could be that he changed position and you can't feel his movements as well. I agree with trying the juice and lying down for a bit.

  • Don't ever feel bad for being nervous about movement!! I went to L&D with my dd and with this little guy for a lack of movement... Thankfully it was always ok, but the point is that you shouldn't apoligize or feel bad about calling or going in. That's their job and what they are paid for. I'm so glad to hear that your LO starting moving around and have you some peace of mind!!!

If you are nervous and anxious over it, it is a legitimate concern.  OB's understand that pregnancy is very nervewracking anyway, let alone when you've already had a loss(es).  If your OB doesn't understand this, find a new one.  Give them a call and see if you can come in for a HB check.  Hearing it will ease your mind, and let you know your LO is just being lazy today.

Edit: So glad to hear things are good.  To make you feel better, I went in at least once for HB check with my pregnancy last year and I think once or twice with this last one, AND I went to L&D twice before the big day and everyone completely understood and said I did the right thing by coming in.

Tried to add to my op when I posted, it didn't work... and I got busy with the kids...

I went into l&d or the ob once during each kids pregnancy between 24-28 weeks for exactly what you describe. Both times they monitored and did a quick ultrasound. Both times baby had just changed positions. As one of the l&d nurses put it, "The little ones love to hide". Both times the docs and nurses were glad I came in. Absolutely nobody gave me a hard time.
